I've got some really detailed cello samples that I want to build a soundfont from, but they're fairly short. I've played around a little with looping them, but always end up with really unnatural pulsating sounds.

So, any tips for looping natural timbres?

Did you try the old "reverse the loop and paste it to the end" - trick?

Another is put them in an editor such as Audition or Sonar etc, in a track, and add a very very small amount of quality reverb, render out and there is a tail :)

Not going to be fun on a lot of samples, so try it on one to start with.

Best way to rerecord the samples with sustain, and not chop so tight :)

Depends on the lenght of the samples... I've cutted and looped very short samples in order to put an orchestra inside an Akai S2000 and the results are not bad. You can here some samples of my library on my web page. If you don't mind to share I can try to help you ;) Let me know.

EDIT: the examples are the last two mp3 in the music page.

Wow Just listend to your Delibes cover.

If you did that with a S2000 and custom samples well :

Thx for the good moment.

and if you are up for some experimentation and hard work: You could use an eq-cloning tool (Izotope Ozone has a nice one built in, maybe there are some free ones), take the frequency-profile of your problem-child and apply it to a nicely looping sample, maybe blend in the original attack and off you go. :)
