I have used MOTU on PC's for years, and I have had very very few issues. 99% of the time I have had no problems at all. I have used both the card in the pc and the firewire versions. Both are good performers and both were stable for me. Hope this helps.

ah, the resurrection of the dead.......always fun! And I have info on one for sure.

be careful with either.

fact: maudio has had big time problems with drivers. Not sure about the hardware as nobody in town has them yet.

fact 2: there are issues at motu right now. The release of the 828mk3 has of course made the need for a completely different driver. What they don't tell you is that this new driver is not very stable, and increases latency.

On a personal note (er, or I'm not the only one if you check the motu unicornation) the older/better drivers for NON 828mk3 unit (like my traveler) have been TOTALLY discontinued. Which has very little to do with the new unit, but it pisses me off

Oh, and I tried the 828mk3 and it's buggy as hell on windows xp. If you think it is just me, just do a google search, you'll see what I mean

disclaimer, I have a mac and a traveller (and had a 2408 and 828 mkii in the past, so you can say I love MOTU(I also had every card m-audio has ever made up untill the fastrack ro))

have you tried it on mac?
how does it do standalone?
can you edit ALL comp/eq/reverb from the front panel without a computer(as I plan to use it standalone as a 26 inputs mixer)

does it supportmackie control when standalone?

My experience with MOTU (2408 mk1, on a P4, and more recently the Ultralite, on a number of latest Desktops and notebooks) leaves a lot to be desired. problems range from crashes to the interface acting outright wonky.

My exprience (recent only) with a variety of M-audio interfaces, both FW and USB, and a variety of desktops and notebooks has been fantastic. Fully working out of the box.

My experience shows that MOTU's work on a mac the way m-audio does on a PC. M-audio also works fully well on a mac.

i had all sort of drivers problem with m-audio on the mac(fast track pro crashes osx EVERY time i plug it in) and really really cheap hardware built quality(2 410 and a solo died on me)
never had issues with motu on the mac side(i guess they are a mac friendly company even today)
any word on the mk3 standalone? and mackie control use in said standalone? (gonna buy one in teh next week, already have a buyer for the traveler)

a. Don't get me wrong, I pretty happy with my traveler. It's motu's attitude they are dishing to several customers that have me peeved.

b. No, I don't do mac anymore

c. I didn't do much with, got cold feet really quickly.

d. There is alegedly an issue with the fx. I believe it has to do the recording of the fx (which you can do as "wet") but you can't have the fx interact with a host (even DP, which is obviously the masterworks source they got them from)

e. 26 inputs?

sorry, I'm me/myself/and I person in the DAW realm

f. I have no idea if it supports mackie for what you are asking.

a. M audio is notorious for driver problems, which is why I am skeptical about even they new VERY sexy soundcard lineup

b. Hold on there "romeo"

You may want to hold off selling that traveler and saving your money. Just do some searches on google, lot's of P.O.ed people over this 828mk3 thing.....

Old thread, I know, but I love my Profire 2626. I've had no problems from it yet, and the preamps are pretty solid

M-audio ProFire 2626 or MOTU 828 mk3?
