I've just recently restarted drinking. Stopped dringing about 30 years ago. My twins just turned 21 last Sunday so you get the picture :borg: . Segrams 7 works for me.

I just plunked the SQ8L into Sonar this morning, and I've got to hand it to you...this sounds really, really good. I owned an ESQ1 back in the day (and had looked at the SQ80 but never bought one), and I guess I had forgotten how cool the old Ensoniq synths sounded. Clearly the SQ80 really expanded on the ESQ1's palette with the extra waveforms and attack transients.

This might be the best-sounding wavetable-type synth I've tried. Some of the sounds have a rather PPG-like quality, but this has a much broader sonic range and is obviously capable of sounding much warmer and fatter than the PPG. I like the Korg Wavestation too, but this sounds less "sterile" than the WS - it has some grit and attitude. The analog filter emulation on this sounds FAT. It would be interesting to hear how the sound of the emulated filters compares to a real SQ80, but I'd imagine it stacks up better than the emulations on a lot of other VSTi's. The sweeps and resonance really sound good.

I'll definitely be buying the full version when it comes out.

Thanks for the extra banks 1-2 Many. I couldn't get them to work at first and then Sigi told me they can only be loaded into back "B". They sound great!

Playing the SQ8-L brings back so many memories - the ESQ-1 was my synth for a long time, and its on-board sequencer is the first thing I used to make music, back when I was teenager. So just for fun, I made a little tune using the factory presets just like the ones on the ESQ-1. And I purposely made the song sound like the crap I used to write when I was young - using a chord progression that I used to love (Cm Ab Bb Fm).

The song is not serious at all - it's just for nostalgia. If it sounds slapped together, repetitive, poorly mixed, and pointless...well then I've done my job!!!

ESQ-1 Nostalgia

By the way, this tune really doesn't showcase the capabilities of the SQ8-L. I used the old factory presets from the 80s, and made no effort to update the sounds or add effects...I was trying to reproduce the crappy music of my youth, when I recorded to tape and had no effects!

A big thanks to the developer for this plugin!!! It's awesome to have such a faithful reproduction of the ESQ-1 as software.

This one deserves a bump, in my most blessed opinion. Although there hasn't been much going on since last november, it seems...

I'm just waiting for a "pro" version that includes an entire interface and a mac AU plugin...

Very good sounding old school synth. I've spent many hours trying banks. I did the same only with hexter.
I agree that a better GUI would be nice.
