The funny part was he that he was writing plain old happy hardcore which went out of style in europe 10 years ago....

i like this sound when it's not too overdone (it is in this example). I like sebastian's song "Ross Ross Ross" because it's short and there's more of a flow to it. Also Kissy Sell Out's remix of Gwen Stefani - Blink It Up is a tasteful use of this.
would like to know how it's done as well. is it just slicing up samples and rearranging? very slick technique, though i'd like to use it sparingly in my own productions...

As for how its done, its really nothing more than techniques used by many other producers, mix and match to make the sound you are looking for, There is hardly ever just one or two things that define a sound but rather many things..
Sometimes a producer can even end up with a certain result by mistake through experimentation...so i say, try it your way and see what happens..

I was responding to someone saying that this was a new genre which is a ridiculous statement and has to have been made by someone who is younger than 20 and who has a limited knowledge of what has come before in the world of electronica...

As to the "new genre", Ed banger's been doing this kinda stuff since 2003 if i'm not wrong.
it can be classified as "new rave, nu rave, new wave, blog house, french touch, electro clash, thrash, mash, or whatever the kids are calling it these days"
really i'm sure the sound has been around for a while, but the movement hadn't. so the genre really relates to the movement at the moment and thats why its big.
I think rather than analyzing genre names and movements, we should be discussing production methods. and i know there isn't just one route to achieve this sound, that's why were talking here so we can FIGURE OUT ways.
ps- anyone seen or tried that new SugarBytes Effectrix plug. bet yuh that would be great for this type of production. get some great sounds from that.

Viral, when you got the compression right, try playing around with some big sounding toms and acoustic/electric bassamples. There is just something special about heavily compressed toms. Once again I recommend the new compressor in Live 7, it's a godsend.
Taking short snippets from rock tracks is a really nice way that both Justice and SebastiAn has done (suspect they even got a library of guitarstabs categorized, judging from Justice Klaxon remix). Hard to give any tips about the sampling part since it basically boils down to record digging.
A little tip though if you are lazy and have ripped the tracks/downloaded them, and you want a little order among the potential tracks you are about to sample, is to use MixedInKey

The mix in this sounds quite messy, but I like that BT-ish stuttering here. 
Mix-wise, there's not a lot of low end, which is probably why everything fits in so nicely. It sounds 'clear' but I like low ends to be loud as well, not piffy.
Does this SebastiAn guy have a myspace page or something? I'd like to hear other examples.
