I know it's neat the Korg has made a DS synth, but several people have done synths for gameboy, gameboy advance, psp already. Why is this such a big deal?

Here's a list and links:

Nanoloop - 4 channel madness with FM synth abilities on Gameboy/Gameboy Color.
Nanoloop2 - 8 channel madness with FM synths on ALL channels on Gameboy Advance
Looper - Primarily a sampler but has granular synth abilities...on Gameboy Advance.
PSPSeq - This is nothing but virtual analog synths with digital edge...for PSP.
PSPRhytym - Groovebox with a TB303 emulator built in...for PSP.

I'd suspect the only reason that DS-10 exists is because of these programs I mentioned. Show some support and give credit where credit is due. Sure, Korg is great and the DS-10 sounds awesome...but there's readily available synths for your game systems already... :)

I hate to post this song yet again, but I will...everything except the amen and the other obvious drum loop are the only samples on the song below...everything else (including the synth drums) are realtime synthesis). I think it kind of whoops the DS-10 in terms of power and it's free. :)
EDIT: It's PSPSeq, btw.

However, there IS something alluring to doing a tune with a stylus... :):):)

Yeah that PSP homebrew stuff looks great. Obviously its hard to compare that to DS stuff though - DS has alot less horsepower than a PSP.

I think the stylus is a much better musical interface though...

Just ordered up a DS for my son's birthday in July.

Mmmmmm.....I wonder....what software should I get to go with it.
Some of my music Soundcloud Goseba

Fun?

I already have a DS, so for the price of the cartridge, it's probably the cheapest option for some easy portable analogue-style sequencing fun. You can play for hours on a DS before the battery runs down, and personally I'd rather take a little diddy DS, that fits into any pocket, around with me than some large and heavy (and compared to the DS - extremely expensive) laptop. It's for fun when you're out and about. Not all of us have laptops surgically implanted to our laps. Not all of us want them either.

read the blog- worldwide distribution!

I hope it exports 6 separate wavs of your 6 tracks, or midi (maybe a vst version will come with the ds w/cart as a dongle to compose on the go and mport in the DAW
i really want that as a mini scratch pad for subway/bus/waiting rooms

most if not all the synth/sequencers out right now for portables require a hack of some form, since they are homebrew software. This is a commercial cartridge however.

this will play very nicely with Traxxpad laying down the beats

It has to be ..... surely?

There's a longer (8:48 mins) video on YouTube showing a little more of this. Looks a bit like th guy is not fully aware of what he's doing but anyway;

wow, the last half of that video made me realize it has much more potential than i originally thought. it looks like you can improvise the two synth parts just by sort of scribbling around on that nearly blank screen. and it looks like you can build up 16 different patterns. i thought it was just gonna be a simple 1 pattern 16-step sequencer. wasn't really sure if i would get it, but i think now i will. what'd be REALLY cool is if they made a separate app that could somehow interface with korg's ms-10 vst on the computer... like show a picture of the ms-10 on the ds and control it with the stylus from there. the stylus just seems so much faster and direct than a mouse.

anyway, i know it's worldwide distribution now, but since i live in japan, maybe i'll get first dibs :hihi:

it all looks a bit fiddly, be cool if there was a seperate drum machine or sample /loop player to go with it.
