I was asked to compose a 30 second piece and deliver it as both .MIDI and .DLS files. I understand that .DLS contains the instruments used for the MIDI piece, but I have no idea how to get them in there. I have been told Direct Music Producer is the one to use. Let me know your thoughts on this. I found that I could load an entire .WAV song into DMP and have the MIDI trigger that (and other .wavs)

I found a program called Awave Studio just now. It can read and write .dls files. Maybe it would do the job?

DLS are something that can be compared to soundfonts and there's no sequence data inside a DLS file. If I remember right you have to save your MIDI file as rmf, a format that has both MIDI and DLS data embedded into it.
