Raising the volume on my patches did result in both sounding quite similar, although X-Gear did sound a bit clearer.politcat wrote:when I take out overscream in my patch (all fx in fact) I definitely still hear a tonal difference. X-gear is beefier, way more open and more clear. For the most part, things sound identical.
But I have discovered a major change: the Overscream pedal. That is the primary culprit in the difference in politicat's patch.
I do agree on the difference in overscream, it's way less noisy in x-gear. cool. but I don't hear that it compresses less, which would be hard to hear anyway (unless it was extreme) because I already hear a tonal difference without overscream.
just doing this little comparison I find I like x-gear more already. I doubt i'll be opening AT2 again.
almost forgot to add, raising the gain in x-gear on this patch did not bring it closer to AT2 tone. That's a good thing. ha!
I will try and compare JHE and see if there is any audible difference like the differences betwen X-Gear and AT2.
