I am very demanding when it comes down to samples.

I've downloaded most of them, and most of those I found unacceptable. If I were the teacher, and the students delivered these samples as their homework, I would ask them to do it again.
But this time, use less noise, less strange endings, no so many difference in verb.
The vocals (female and male oohs and aahs) were promising, but sadly not recorded with the best equipment, or by some student that did not manage to deal with the equipment.

Most of these samples were deleted on my harddisk upon first listening.
I was not impressed by most of them.

Keep in mind though, that I am extremely demanding when it comes down to samples: I only keep the best of the best, from the range that I like.
Your milage WILL vary.

I do want to say, that in the past I have heard other samples packs that impressed my, and that are somewhat similar sounding: the Spe3d metal-on-metal pack (post 2 in http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=209311)and the granular stuff from Bolder http://www.boldersounds.com/free.aspx : delicious!

First I downloaded a few. When I heard a loop of somebody playing arm trombone (armbone), I went for more !
I stopped at 2:30 last night and will check was I got.

MrM, tx for inspiring me to buy the Yamaha DD55 and indeed Spe3d is very good, but he's no 'pupil' anymore either.

Amen. I also manage to filter only 44 KHz files, DTA took care of all the rest; anyway, one file gave 404 - not found - error.

MrM is right ! Most of it is realy dissapointing... I've heard lots of better stuff from KvR blokes.
A few are quiet good and original !

The ideas are inspiring, but yes, KVR blokes provide us much nicer samples.

BTW, one thing I did like was the link to the free music courses:

Some nice info about instruments and learning to play.
Can even be usefull to learn how to think as a bassplayer, while performing on keys

Here's a Mini Review by yours truly that I posted on another forum yesterday:

Biggest gripe? MONO! My guess is that these are samples that were used in the days were RAM was small. I think in many cases, a little reverb will smooth out the missing tails. Here are some of my favourites:

Set number 1: great set of percussive sounds. Large variety with 1-5 variatons per. Some original acoustic samples here, like the toothbrush didgeridoo, there's a nice gong set, etc.

Set number 2: cello torture, flute foghorn, wineglass on music stand - this set rocks!!!

Set number 4: some cool prepared piano fx, knocks, a dj-shadow-style dark piano chord. There's a lot of boring stuff too, like single notes at one dynamic, but I still recommend it for the fx.

Set number 7: don't you just love the Boston Subway? Character. Lots of Sound Ideas-like machine sounds here. Good for anyone interested in doing sound design.

Set number 8: very, very cool, rare, interesting sounds. 10/10

Set number 9: balloons and rubber bands: SEXY

Set number 11: glass, metal, pretty well done.

Set number 12: more typical Sound Ideas-like stuff. Again, useful for those interested in trying out sound design.

Jean-Luc Cohen: good drum kit pieces (20 snare articulations) + useful shaker textures.

John Fitch: wow. Generous. There are some amazing city ambiences here. It's like going on sound trips around the world. I'll be using some of this in my music, guaranteed! (with credit for JF, bien sur)

Jonathan Hakakian: quirky. Could be useful for a trippy downtempo number or two.

Mark Dorflinger: handcufs, scissors and trombone. C'mon, you know you want it! I'm hearing Tom Waits.

Van Ottorloo: good tabla stuff, wild bass clarinet and gong transformations. Another winner.

Romnel Molina: it's like having access to a bank of foley that was prepared for a feature. Very, very useful, long samples.
