You guys asking for a better GUI realize that you've already got pretty much the exact same GUI as the original product had? And as page driven interfaces go, the ESQ-1 and SQ-80 were pretty fast and easy to use compared to some of the other "knobless" synths of the time. I think they borrowed the "soft button" interface paradigm from fighter jets. Doesn't seem like a big deal today, just about every synth/workstation uses a similar system now. But it was revolutionary at the time.

indeed the free version & its gui are great as a gift!!

but the dev team spoke of an advanced version with a more simple gui,

My broke ass is more than happy with the free version but i think many better off than me are intending to support them by buying

ether way i love this synth & the demo tune i did thats on there web site, & if i fall in to a pile of cash i also will buy the improved version

and sometimes there were ORCS on the hilL! and they had iron daggers! and bad breath!

grease - I have to hand it to you. That song sounds just like all the cassettes I used to have sitting around from my days on my ESQ-1. And props to the dev to get the vibe of the ESQ-1 in a soft-synth.

And to those of you asking for a different GUI - you know not what you ask for.

The GUI is perfect.

Last time I tried the SQ8L, I had the jumpy GUI in Tracktion. Well, I've got to give it another go now that I've heard grease's demo tune.

I'm sure you backed up your tunes to data cassette as well, right grease? skkkkrrrrrreeeeecheeeeeeecheeeeeeechchchchchch

Scoot, I'm glad you enjoyed the tune! It is such a nostalgia trip to use this thing, especially with the original presets. What's nice is that the ESQ-1 and this plugin are actually capable of some less dated sounds. But yeah, I was going for the sound of my old four-track cassettes! In fact, I put the plugin Ferox on this to add some tape simulation, to help with the overdriven tape sound I used to make.

I did indeed back up my tunes to data tape! I didn't get what you meant at first, but then it came back to me with your impression of the data noise. Sadly, I only saved a handful of those songs in data form (but I recorded a lot of music to cassette). Wait, actually I think I mean fortunately I only saved a handful of those songs.

By the way, I think the plugin is just fine the way it is. Some buttons for selecting the different pages would be nice, but not necessary. It's just like the ESQ-1. I think it doesn't need to be treated like a work-in-progress, unless people are experiencing bugs.

I just want a mac version, even moreso than a knob filled GUI.

I just discovered this and I like it very much.

I have a problem though.
I can only load 1 instance. If I load a 2nd, the GUI will not show.

I use Tracktion1 on an old win98 machine. I know, the problem may be win98.

The 2nd instance shows up on the track and the tracktion window that vsts load in shows, but there is no SQ80l GUI.
I can chance the patches of the standard soundbank using the tracktion window, but can't access the GUI.

I tried copying the dll and renaming it but that did not help.

Is this a known problem, or maybe just a win 98 problem.
I'm shpping a new computer but would like to know if other people have this problem.

This is probably my favorite synth right now. The sound is very good.

I just downloaded and played around with SQ8L a little yesterday and...HOLY SHIT!!! I love this synth! Nice, clean and simple GUI with a snotload of functions available hidden behing the right-click of a mouse. And that sound just makes me bust a nut in my pants. I used to take synth lessons as a kid and the lady I took lessons from had an ESQ-1. After the lesson was over, she would show me how to program my own sounds in the thing. As an eleven year old kid, I was so amazed at being able to take a gong sound and slowly morph that sound into a UFO sound effect. Countless times I would beg my parents to buy me an ESQ-1, but they would have none of that...too expenseive at the time lol. This VST sounds just like I remember that synth and the approach to programming sounds in this is immediately familiar. WOW!...I can not believe I didn't notice this VST was available all this time. I never would have dreamed as a child that I would have that synthesizer available to me on a computer hard drive.

BTW, try attaching SQ8L to some delay and a wide reverb and you'll be in late 80's heaven

Well, this is the best emulating of a hardware synth i have ever heard !
SQ8L is frightenly close to the hardware SQ80 with all the bottom end and details in any sound i made through the years on this lovely synth.
I can see in my crystal ball that there's an update on it's way with a lovely updated interface and new synth functions.
