jack for Windows is a reality probe and seems a very good altenative to other products like asio4all

mhhhh.. I saw Jack under Linux and it works very good. It sounds promising...

don't work so good as linux, don't have midi and don't work with software without asio support but is a good asio driver with routing

yes... these are the main limitations at the moment:

1) only asio compatible applications can be "jackified"
2) routing possibilities for now are only audio-wise

what's amazing for me are the routing possibilities: you have a panel in which shows your system inputs and outputs, and also the inputs/outputs of jackified applications, and you can draw cables to freely connect them (watch out from feedback!!!).
I use jack for windows (jackdmp) with ableton live, because it gives me really low latency and also low cpu usage... and, as a bonus, I route some ableton audio outputs into audiomulch, and send back them to live's mixer, so basicly with jackdmp I use audiomulch as an external effect for my preferred daw.

fliffo, is there something I am missing?

I regsvr32 JackRouter.dll but I don't see it in any host as a new ASIO implementor.

ok, if you want install this without problmes i recommend the next steps

1) don't install on windows directory, install on C:\jack and put the directory on system paths

2) open DOS console, go to the dir and type regsvr32 JackRouter.dll

In linux, Jackd gives you fx chains only limited by your brain and your gear.

no only rounting, you can use this as low latency asio driver for every audio card if you compare with asio4all y so much better

It will be useful to me since you can't pass audio in both directions using Rewire. You can send MIDI to the slave app and receive audio.
If I wanted to use for example Live for sequencing and Cubase for mixing (so I put in one project all the plugins, routings and settings and then play all my live sets trough it without needing to replicate the same setting in dozens of projects) I couldn't do it (virtual audio cable aside)

I think Jack will help a lot.

Now Reason can work with vst FX, ha ha.

unfortunately the actual version don't support midi :(

I tried to route audio into Reason with jack, but no success.
In qjctl (for who doesn't know is a recommended jack-control panel) Reason appears to have audio inputs... But even if I route some audio in, I can't figure out how to use this incoming audio stream...
I remember that the creator of the asio4all drivers also created something called "rewushell" (or something like this) that you can install optionally during the asio4all installation procedure.
This Rewushell allows using the "rebirth input machine" that's inside Reason as an Audio input, unfortunately it just listens to the the live/phisical input of my soundcard, and AFAIK there's no way to redirect some other's applications audio output to the "rebirth input machine".
When I first installed jack I thought that I could listen to the audio routed into reason via "rebirth input machine" but it isn't so :(

There must be a way tho... if it works with the internal audio stream coming from rebirth it should teorically work with every other audio app... no?

Great, I've been waiting for Jack to be stable on Windows for a long time. But I can't use my audio interface's own driver with Jack, right? That's too bad, although if the Jack driver gives equal performance I quess it doesn't really matter.

I've been waiting to connect my sequencer to Sound Forge for a long time for some quick sample-making and it seems to be possible now - yay!

This is crazy. First Rearoute [comes with Reaper], and now Jackd. Musicians and audio fans, rejoice :).

I think this is gonna be a big hit.

Cheers!

watching with interest :)

with my emu 1820m & asio4all i can send vox in to one host at a stupidly low buffer have it live process a vocal then send it from the patchmix (emu 1820m mixer software) to another host to be recorded,

this seems like i can just use jack & nothing else,

will take the plunge & test :scared:

AFAIK there aren't jack native audio applications on windows, but if an application works with asio drivers can be "jackified". So if your audio interface has asio drivers jack will use them.
It has passed a log time since I installed jack on my laptop, but IIRC there is a command line that tells you what audio drivers are present on your system giving them a name, and when you load the jack server you specify the driver name...

jackdmp -R -S -d portaudio -d "insert_dirver_name_here"

P.s. the above string is (they told me) mandatory under windows... you just have to put the name of the driver.

e.g.:

jackdmp -R -S -d portaudio -d "ASIO4ALL v2"
