O.K. here's my demo clip, using Valo along with Straightliner and Aggressor:

http://www.rs-met.com/democlips/Straigh ... Excess.mp3

Straightliner: Offbeat-Bass (Preset: UahUahUahUah (tweaked)), Trance-gate sound (Preset: TrancyPattern003) - no FX on both sounds
Aggressor: 303 (with Stereo-Delay)
Valo: sawtooth-sound with the built in reverb

yep. that valo synth sounds good to me too - i was especially impressed by the MandatoryPad preset. and i think, your reverb algo is pretty good.

I'm always curious : which development tool ?

Apart, the sound is "rich", nice one.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

Post

i will test this in renoise 1,9,1 later tonight

Wahh! I get the download, but FF won't let me save to disk. I want to hear this puppy. I might even make you some presets, S-N-S... I notice it's on Googlepages, maybe download limit reached? I'll try again later.

Using MS VC++ Express edition 2005 currently, but mostly any C++ compiler should work.

Hmmh.. downloads fine back here so I doubt that's the problem...

Do you see the screenshot (that's in the same place)? Anyone else having trouble? What do you mean by "won't let me save"?

Finally got. No probbys. Looking forward to checking this out.

Did a REALLY quick demo myself (mostly trying to use my awful presets) with 9 instances of Valo, and a Yohng W1 on master (to tame the peaks). Resisted doing any EQ or even panning, just basic level mixing. No samples, no other plugins.

Found here: http://mystran.googlepages.com/ValoX9.mp3
that sounds really good!

will the finished version be payware? if so what price bracket?

ether way it sounds very good from that mp3 :tu:

Well like it says on the first post, yeah, it'll be payware 'cos it was quite a bit of work to get it where it is. The demo wouldn't be limited the way it is, if this wasn't the case.

As for price... like I said, not sure yet, but I think we're speaking about something around 50 euro...

If I can afford to implement everything I've been planning to add (more oscillator types and another filter design are on the TODO list at least), I might make older versions available for free eventually (but no promises).

Well, thank you.

I had a quick play, and it does sound very nice. And since everyone here is being really nice I thought I'd be an ass and critize the f**k out of it:

-Why can't Osc 2 use the same waves as Osc 1?
-GUI is kinda ugly, except those wicked green bits
-No marks on the knobs make it harder to program (maybe use tooltips instead?)

Love the filters though :D

Only thing that isn't available on Osc2 is the Multi-saw, and well... to be honest the reason is that I've yet to figure out how to sensibly sync 8 saws to a single oscillator without it just sounding more or less the same as a single synced saw. I've got an idea to how to do this in an interesting way (without it being horribly costly either), so maybe in the future Osc2 will be able to do Multi-saws as well.

I am fully aware that might be so... I admit not being a visual artist, though I'm considering adding some alternative color schemes for those that can't stand the current one (I almost released it with another one actually), but since it's procedurally drawn and I don't have an editor (can only tweak the code, recompile, see if it looks what it should) it's rather painful.

Anyway, when I get alternative schemes done, they'll be switchable on the fly I guess. Alternative layouts would also be a possibility, but that'll take a lot longer to happen.
-No marks on the knobs make it harder to program (maybe use tooltips instead?)
Tooltips are on the TODO list (quite high actually) or I just might decide to put a traditional display for patch name and currently tweaked knob values in there. But I want to do 'em properly so that they display exact values the way they affect the sound. I might also add some markings when I figure out how to make them not look even uglier than the current GUI.

It should handle sustain-pedal now. Also added a few more presets.

I made a couple of alternative color schemes (as seen in the new mini-screenshot on first post) in case any of them are any less ugly... right-clicking on the background (not too close to the knobs/menus) will show a menu. The version "pb1d" is the first to have this.

It'll remember which color scheme was chosen when you close and reopen the editor window, but unfortunately it will not remember 'em when the synth is closed and reopened (each instance can have a different color scheme, so I'm not sure where I should store the setting... maybe patch, but...)

Oh and if they are all as ugly or uglier, then I'm going to need somebody else to help with that stuff... :(

sorry for not reading the first post & skipping to the audio demo

the 2'nd gui from the left looks nice IMO :)

its very unlikely that i will be able to afford this so i wont tease myself & play with the demo,

but as i said the mp3 sounded very impressive & well worth the fair price of 50 euro's!!

best of luck & i hope your hard wrk pays off!

if you want any demo tracks like the ones i did for BLUE on Rob Papen's site be sure to let me know ;)

IMO the current GUI makes the synth harder to use then it needs to be. Just simple things, none of the control groups are labeled. The user needs to figure out what each control does by context and/or twisting the knob.

For example, when Valo wasn't responding to note-offs from my keyboard, I wasn't 100% sure if the controls I were tweaking were related to the amplitude envelope.

The destination options for Lfo One include "Osc2" and "Filter". The options don't specify exactly what is going to be modulated.

The user needs to guess whether the Filter Envelope Amount knob ranges from 0 to 100% or from -100 to 100%.

These things aren't a problem for experienced users, but I imagine it would make it harder for newbies.

Across the entire price range, the standard for vst GUI design is really high.

On a positive note, I think Valo sounds a bit different to the few synths I own. I assume that would help it find a place in peoples synth collections.
