Gregjazz wrote: also I wanted to make sure it aligned with my tracks, because when you encode something as an MP3 it'll add like a quarter or eighth of a second delay at the beginning. I may have clipped off any silence at the beginning of the MP3 when tempo-aligning it.
Small tip: If you use OGG while collaborating, this won't happen. OGG en-/decoding is almost sample accurate.
In addition, the sound quality ssems to be slightly better as well.
Most converters support OGG these days, all you need to do is to download a codec.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

ah, ok! yeah I always have to manually align stuff I download, didn't know why.

Sascha, thanks for the ogg tip, nice to know there's a dial-up friendly format that doesn't have to be tweaked into alignment.

well, is this fun or what? Drums, anyone?
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.

Great tip!

Want OGGs of the stuff I posted?

Me? nah, I think we're OK on this one, pretty clear where the one is, not hard to align. Good thing to know though.

So where's that Watto character anyway...off wrestling crocodiles i suppose, oppressing the abos, passed out in a pool of Foster's, bush hat askew...
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.

aw, nah man! If you're not comfortable posting a track that's cool, but believe me I know how you feel. I had a really hard time getting a take on this tune that didn't make me cringe. Sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't :)

You got the Bill Evans records too I see -- yeah that's an impossible standard to meet. My idea about what I was gonna play changed a lot between the time I started the topic and the time I put the track up ;)

well, this thing's open until it scrolls off into the archive, so if inspiration strikes, post away! Thanks for the kind offer, I think we're OK for server space for a while.

oh yeah -- you probably want to edit your email out of that post before a spambot finds it.
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.

With any luck Watto'll be back by then (he's too modest to brag about this, but his team made the semi-finals in the dwarf toss, and they've gone into overtime) and put the backing up with Gregjazz's bass. That'll be a lot more fun to play along with than the original.

hey, Watto, go easy on the little fella, 'k? I know there's a bonus for sudden death, but...

ok, no more Australia jokes, I promise!! unless I think of a good one
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.

Mate, dunno where you got the idea that we dwarf-toss down here - the only things we chuck around are sheilas and crocs ;-)

Oh, and cartons :hihi:

pfff. You're questioning my knowledge of Australia? please. I've seen Mad Max five times.

:hihi:

hey when ya get a chance, could you put up the backing with Gregjazz's bass? If not I'll do it, but you've got the .wav files...

and the original track minus the midi bass is here

sorry it's late, but i did a trombone part today.
the first part is the melody, then a 1 chorus break where beboop does his solo, then 3 choruses of me. i'm not trying to steal the show with 3 choruses. just couldn't figure out which one to keep since they're all kind of mediocre. so whoever ends up mixing this thing, feel free to keep only one or two (or all three! :D ) or even splice them together to make one really good take. i just feel weird doing that myself. oh, my file starts right on the downbeat of the first measure and is at 132bpm, so it should sync up perfectly. i tried not to play over the bar lines when starting and ending choruses to make it easier to edit, but i did play a pickup note on my first solo chorus by accident. also, the file is in ogg. hope that's okay. anyway, here it is:

well, the original idea was whoever ends up mixing is you :)

Sounds great, thank you! I'll get some sort of mix up as soon as I can -- having a slight .dll crisis here, the converter I just downloaded doesn't like the codec I have. Plays back fine, just errors out converting to .wav

anyway I'll get it sorted. All the choruses sound fine to me -- is there one you like least? It'd make it a little more manageable for me to upload if I can shorten it a bit

hahaha, well, i just listened to my solos again this morning and i don't really like any of them!
but okay, let's just keep the last one and dump the first and second.

heheh, tell me about it. I hated mine too, I just put them up in complete despair of ever getting a good one, because I'd said I would. They sound fine to me now (well, as long as I turn off the midi tracks)

this whole process is so weird anyway, playing along with a rhythm section that's not paying the least attention to anything you do. It's like, i dunno, telling jokes to your refrigerator, you can paint a big smiley face on it for Enhanced Realism -- but it's still, you know, a refrigerator, with a limited capacity for humor.

anyway....I'm oggable! I'm ogg enabled. Yeah, the last chorus is the best one -- i'll work on it some tonight.
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.
