MAC VERSION?
please say that you're making an AU version... I would love to have poly-ana running in logic...
Very sorry but no, even more specific hardware than that. So specific that I don't even have one and have to code for it in my imagination.
(A Mac version would be my highest priority, if I could afford a Mac. As it is, I can't even afford a new real computer.I'm on a 6+ year old Wintel box.

hrm. I have no idea what you meant as far as specific hardware goes then... Unless you mean receptor?

Super thanks to Hitchcock Bell, Funkybot's Evil Twin, and fred-hal for the great new reviews!!! I think that'll get us on the map now.
http://www.kvraudio.com/user_review/2303.html
Other news: The HPF filter upper limit problem will be fixed in the coming 1.12 update. Someone pointed it out in another thread which I don't care to dredge up again, but he was right. It was due to a limit I built in when debugging some nasty denormal issues, way back in the early voice development. I even had a comment in the code to remove it when "sanity returns". So I guess sanity did return at some point because I removed it, and poof, no more leaky HPF, it'll cut out all the sound now when cutoff is maxxed instead of letting some highs leak through.
This will be the first change I've made that potentially "breaks" some patches. Normally I consider us "married" to the sound as-is, bugs and all (not that there realy are any at this point, though there are a few things I would gladly tweak if it wouldn't break patches) but in this case, I'm putting her back to the way she was originally intended to be.
Though patches that are affected by this should be a fairly rare case, a slight tweak of the cutoff knob will be enough to fix it. I think that's a fair trade off for correct behavoir of the HPFs.
Should have it out for you early next week, assuming my tests on "specific hardware" go smoothly enough.
Thanks again for the great reviews guys. I feel almost a bit guilty as they're just SO positive, but of course, that's why you own Poly-Ana. I suppose there's an inherent positive bias in the reviews. Who bothers to review a product they don't like? (Though that's tempting on some days.

Actually, there was that guy who carefully made the rounds and negatively reviewed every sampler because they didn't "sample". Be glad you didn't make a sampler!
Congrats on the (deserved) great reviews. I'll put one in soon too.

Ha! Haven't noticed that but will take a look for it. I'm sure I'm vulnerable to attacks from the anti-aliasing gestapo, but that's all fair. And there IS no such thing as bad press. (Sold 2 copies on the same night I got banned last week. That doesn't sound like much but when you go weeks at a time with no sales at all, it's quite a significant bump on the stats. If I could figure out a way get banned every night I'd almost be making a living at this. Maybe I should cut AD and Meffy in on a piece of the action?bduffy wrote:Actually, there was that guy who carefully made the rounds and negatively reviewed every sampler because they didn't "sample". And... I AM glad I didn't make a sampler! I've got nothing to contribute to sampler products, which I think are well represented by some near-perfect examples already (something the "big boys" are actually good at). That and I'm just not a big sampler fan. (Speaking of which, anyone in Toronto/GTA want to buy an Ensoniq EPS with 4X memory expansion and 8X output expander? I picked it up recently just to test Poly-Ana's polyphonic pressure -- which actually didn't work at all due to a stupid typo in my code, but nobody had reported it after being out more than a year! In fact, several testers told me poly-pressure WAS working but they obviously confused it with channel-pressure. So, that test done, I don't really need the sampler now. Comes with a pile of funky sample diskettes. And a manual. And a 3rd party how-to sampling book.)
There's some more classic effects I'd like to have a go at, but would need to see sales pick up before daring to go back to formula again. Instrument wise... VA is DONE, but I'm an organ and Wurly lover too, and just restored a 1956 Wurlitzer Model 112 EP.

FYI: I belive "lordvader" was the guy doing the hitpieces on samplers. Pretty much every sampler from Kontakt to HALion will have one of his slag jobs on there. I reported it, but to no end.
Anyway, hope you have sales coming out your arse someday soon!

However, a big sticking point has been the CPU usage, which I know that AQ has explained is part of his coding strategy for getting analog-ness. If there is any way that could be lowered, aside from reducing quality via the X-times quality switch... I would be much more tempted.

Uhoh. My DAW/Dev P4 machine just went down. Now I'm typing this on a P3 box from the previous century.
Was just back from a BSOD that happened in the bootcycle after a Windows Update had rebooted the machine (don't think it was due to the update, I've been having probably heat related crash problems in this 6 year old P4 box for some time). I think it got confused due to the crash and it tried to re-install the same update twice and got hung up -- telling me it was busy installing updates and not to restart my computer. It sat there spinning drives flashing that message at me for over an hour before I gave up and hit the power switch. Now it boots up to the XP loading cylon screen as normal, but then it BSODs before the login/desktop shows. Won't even boot into safe mode or command prompt. BSOD says something about "BAD_POOL_LOADER"? Something vital to booting got clobbered on that drive.
NOT good! Thankfully, I doubt any work was lost. There was a week or so on there that's not been backed up yet, but no reason to think any of that data's been lost. Just can't boot to get to it easily.
So, very sorry but the update is going to be delayed a bit. Even if a brand new machine fell out of the sky onto my desk today I'd still be 2 or 3 days before I had it configured enough to get back to work.
Dead in the water...

you know admiral, you just got me thinking...
Wouldn't devs save money by using bootcamp? I mean, rather than having a separate mac and pc for coding, couldn't you just install windows on an intel mac? I mean, you'd need beta testers to make sure the code worked on PPC macs, of course.
I'm just curious and wondering if there's any reason why one couldn't code one's PC version on an intel mac running windows.

you could use a live linux disk to recover any files you need (or stick the drive in the P3 & grab them,
to fix your windows install a repair from the install disk should do the job,
not the first repair option you get but the one you get if you chose to install XP, it scans your drivers for installed versions of XP & asks if you want them to be fixed,
doing this will remove ALL windows updates that are not included on your XP install disk,
good luck

We'd save money, but you can still buy about twice as much PC for the money as you can Mac. So, you save even more money by ignoring Macs.MitchK1989 wrote:you know admiral, you just got me thinking...

This would be my preferred way to go though. If 40 people want to buy Poly-Ana this weekend I'll order my new MacBook Pro on Monday. (Man, when you look at it that way this job just looks so completely daunting.) But right now I'm asking myself if I can even afford a new hard drive to start a fresh install on.
Yeah, 6 years worth of updates. That's why a recover takes just as long as a reformat/reinstall. P3 is fully populated with drives. As is P4. Not really any liklihood of swapping drives between them. And I don't want that data in a P3, or for that matter a P4... I want it in a modern machine!djsubject wrote: Sorry to hear that

Where would you recommend I get the Linux disk image to burn? Need one CD sized or less as my P3 doesn't have a DVD burner in it. I can find my way around a unix command line, but what exactly would the procedure be for mounting all my drives, including an external USB 2 one, so I can copy everything vital onto the USB? If I can do that, I'll just nuke this machine entirely and start a new XP install from scratch. I'll still have 6 years of Windows Updates to catch up on though. (That's where the first day goes.)
Normally I take these events as omens that it's time to build a completely new system. I'm potentially making a huge mistake here. Like a haunted house, this machine is saying "get out" to me, threw open the front door, gave me a chance to run... but now I'm turning around, going back inside, to see what's lurking in the basement? Smart!
