Post

I screwed up and uploaded v0.72 again v0.75 is really up now.

v0.75

_clean up
_new graphics
_more patches

ToDo
_fix reverb
_more patches

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
v0.72

_overall louder
_tightened up the whole thing
_add a few more patches

You can select almost any patch press the trigger, walk away and it will continue to evolve and change.. :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
v0.7

_midi learn
_patch muting
_new output filters

Midi learn, even both directions for the joystick. I solved the full on patch change problem. The patches are still running but muted until a gate or manual trigger is recieved. I changed the output filters while I was at it. The ToDo list is very short now. :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
v0.66

_a few patches

This is starting to be a lot of fun. Patches that modulate the Env - Decay may need to be triggered a few times to latch depending on where the mod voltage is. I'm starting to hear some PF sounding stuff. So I'm happy.

One problem it that most patches don't need to be triggered. If Decay is not set to "manual" it's full on when you change the patch. So what I'm thinking is a knob marker to show the patch setting and actually setting all patches to manual.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
v0.65

_fixed envelope shaper (YAH!!!!):hyper:
_fixed osc-3 amplitude falloff.

After rereading the manual I tossed the old ES and started from scratch. AFAICT it's working correctly. I also tossed osc-3 and started over.. Now I may have to replace osc-2 with the new version. :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
v0.6

_added selectable reverb
_added fine tuners for vco freq (inner knob)
_fixed note priority
_fixed sine wave hump
_made patches louder
_changed meter and scope graphics
_fixed other small graphics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
v0.5

Because it's the only part I actually got close to right, only the EG is from the original Synthia otherwise this is a total rebuild.

I've been trying to fix this for 4 maybe 5 years. I've still got a little work to do but I think it's going well. It's SE, PC only, free and it's got no patches because I'm falling asleep on my keyboard. Maybe tomorrow.

AKS and VCS3 fans can help by spotting bugs.... Thanks. I know it needs work.

Enjoy
Tom

Thanks for another EFM synth. They are always interesting.

without wanting to sound like a purist or whatever, could we have a reverb instead of the delay? there is some cool stuff you can do with it on the original if you start to patch it through other things...
It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

Tell you what I'll do. I've got this really good CK_reverb that I wanted to use anyway so I'll make it switchable reverb or delay. What the hell, I may even toss a multi tap in there as long as I'm going to make it switchable. 8)

Is there something wrong with this? The volume is super low no matter what I do.

Yeah, that QWERTY forehead tatoo can be a bummer in the mirror!

thanks a lot tom! you are a star!!
tbh, it certainly doesn't sound the same, but the spirit is there, which is what matters. I would use it in the same situation I would need a vcs. it certainly uses a lot of cpu, but I know by experience how much goes under the hood in such a complex synthedit creation. well done and thanks again.

Thanks from me too, Tom. I'm a total sucker for EMS type synths. Great work. One of the patches sounds like something by Malcolm Clarke in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop days... and you either know what I mean by that or you don't. ;)

Well... I got the waveforms as right as I could get them. It's doesn't sound like an EMS, I never thought it would but you can get pretty close. The main thing to me is that it all works.... mostly right.... and that it's fun to play with.

I'm looking forward to you picking it apart. :D

I looked it over pretty good and couldn't see a volume problem. There are level controls everywhere. If you change the trapezoid level you may need to raise or lower the VCF and VCO levels.

I did repatch the same 3 included patches to be a bit louder. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Yeah it's true. I get 10-20% cpu, and it's not really an EMS. I agree completely that fun is the most important aspect of something like this. So what if it's not an EMS? It's still educational, useful and a pretty good time to boot.

It's not nearly as complicated as the original. I was scared to touch anything in that one. Damn what a mess. It's easy to get around and fix the insides of this one though. I did learn my lesson the first time.
