I'm impressed that you got it this fast with no documentation. If you make me a wish list of operators you would like, I'll implement them. (I've got 'eq' and 'mod' so far)michu wrote:hehe, i've got wrapped around with the scripting
again before i try it, is it possible to use fractional ticks?
any chance for a 'modulo' opcode?
or 'equal to' besides gt and lt
or mapping cc or some continuous output surface widget to a variable?
really, this already overnight became one of my favourite programmable arpeggiators ever
About fractional tricks, you can wait half a tick (or 0.33333 ticks) currently all note values are rounded to a midi key, but I'm thinking of changing that.
If you're super eager to get them done, and feel like c++ is your thing take a look at: http://audjoo-helix.svn.sourceforge.net ... iew=markup
Where all the ops are defined.

Thanks for the new release. It sounds fabulous as always and the new reverb is a big improvement IMHO. However, the longest reverb tail is much, MUCH too short. Even with no damping and all filters turned off the reverb is only like 3 seconds. Could you please double it or triple it? This is much needed for pads and special effects.
EDIT: scratch that.. for some weird reason I can now make it much longer. Weird. Perhaps a bug I stumbled upon. Will test some more.
EDIT2: ok, I found the problem. It's just that the highpass filter in the feedback loop is very sensitive. That is, the control is very sensitive and moving it just a tiny fraction can cause the reverb to be significantly shorter. How about changing the range to be a bit wider somehow? Now 3/4 of the knobs range is pretty much useless, imho.
Cheers!

Any demo of the plucked string model ? I usually avoid downloading new free VSTi but I've heard so much good from this one I could be tempted, if only I could hear good strings emulation : )

Geez, I'm impressed - not only does this thing have all the features I could have hoped for, it has the new arp and physical modelling stuff I never could've even expected. Helix is well on its way to becoming the best freeware synth of all time, if it's not already there.

cheers for the link to source, my c++ skills are nill, but i learned that some parameters have to be variables, while other have to be constants.JonasNorberg wrote:I'm impressed that you got it this fast with no documentation. if i may ask, all parameters acceptable as variables would be nice.
i think for passing cc into arp opcode like cca-d standing for cc sliders on helix gui. it would be neat for live controlling stuff like swing or groove
mult would be a must i think
that's the stuff i can think of now, already have plenty to get a grip with
that would keep me even more busy.
btw, is there any way of contacting you via email or on efnet?
cheers

Hmm... interesting.. maybe the arp-param should be a modulation destination... or maybe just have some sliders that one could cc-map (I need to make all sliders properly cc-mappable...)michu wrote:i think for passing cc into arp opcode like cca-d standing for cc sliders on helix gui. it would be neat for live controlling stuff like swing or groove

Ah so that's how it works. The max values don't seem to go fast enough to be scaled to semitones rather than tempo steps. (Yeah, you know exactly what I'm trying to do here. This synth just gets more and more amazing!
Jonas - I love the lowpass option for the string simulation, but is it possible to retain pitch clarity when using this? i.e., at the moment, the stronger the lowpass option, the more detuned octaves become from each other.
STRING SIMULATION - First part with no lowpass, second part with strong lowpass.
This isn't really something that can be fixed by adjusting the Detune level on the oscillator.
In some cases I guess it's quite desirable, but y'know, thought I'd ask.

Hello Jonas,
I have been playing with Helix, which is an awesome synth by the way, inside of my host Metro. Helix works fine in Metro with the one exception of the window is not sized correctly. Metro calls the VST function 'getrect' to get the size of the rect before the VST edit window is shown and apparently Helix is returning all 0's for its default editor size.
Please contact me by email for more important information... info(at)sagantech.biz
thanks,
Jeremy

Well, right now the lowpass option is a normal "RC, 6db/oct" filter that have some phase distortion, the reult is that higher frequencies gets detuned... you could try using the cross talk for dampig the HF. Also don't forget, you could route it through a filter (I suggest the ladder-1pole-no-res variant). In my experience, the lowpass-detuning can be somewhat compensated for with regular detune, but you are right not fully. (the correction might work for a region on the keyboard)fandango wrote:I love the lowpass option for the string simulation, but is it possible to retain pitch clarity when using this? i.e., at the moment, the stronger the lowpass option, the more detuned octaves become from each other.

Jonas, I got to peek under the hood and am amazed. I think I found a bug though. I diddled with some presets & added osillators. I would set the osc. pitch at +2, & it would sound fine, but on the osc display it would read pitch:0
I didn't save anything, so don't know if that would affect it. I will try to duplicate this again & let you know. I was excited to see the arp files were .txt files, but disappointed to see they are written in Cylon, and could not decipher the hieroglyphics. I saw you arp tutorial earlier in this post, but it made my poor little head explode. After I got it together, I'm hoping someone will write some interesting arps a la Z3ta. The BIG problem, no matter what I use Helix in, the bottom osc & effects are cut off. In Orion--can't see, in VSTHost, can't see. Could you think about making a 'horizontal' version?? Or, you have that great nice slider in the middle, could you put one on the edge so we can at least scroll down to these things.
Anyway, thank you very much for an absolutely lovely synth. As soon as I can see the whole thing, you'll be getting some presets from me.
Cheers,

Mmm, recently found out about this VSTi. I've been able to use a couple of betas prior to the latest in MiniHost, but alas the current release makes it crash and stay in RAM forever. :/
Would love to try out the string model and arp.
So, is it only me or someone else has the trouble?
EDIT: nevermind that, seems my PC is going downhill or the host, nothing works anymore, even after reboots... YAY!
