Hi Atomic users!

I have started this thread for you to add features you would like to see on the next version of Atomic. We will consider all entries.

Thanx!

First, thanks a lot for your innovative Plug and the wonderfull gui :)
To me, Atomic as it is now is already very powerfull and leads to very interesting result.

But as you ask for features one would like to see, here some features I would find really usefull:
(BTW I am aware that the kind of features I would like to see are very traditional and in a quite other spirit than Atomic, but traditional + innovative must not be a bad thing.)

1. Save pattern (from A0 to Z9, that would be 260 Patterns)
A pattern would be exactly like a Preset.
The end of a preset should be defined (when multidirectional)

2. A Song mode where patterns could be joined.
The number of time a pattern is played could be numerically expressed.
To play the Pattern A1 seven times and then pattern A2 three times, rather than write:
A1, A1, A1, A1, A1, A1, A1, A2, A2, A2

it could be : A1 7x, A2 2x

3. Save Songs (99 songs or more :))

4. Though one would probably at first not think about it with such kind of Arp/Patterns and the music associatred with it, a shuffle function would be great.
A flexible schufle function where the shufle strength can be choosed in % and wether the shuffle applys on a sixteenth note basis or on an eigth note basis

Hi again Tim
Still enjoying it too. Heres maybe a far out request but you asked yourself:

An internal drum module with a few basics like CR78, Tr606,808,909 & Perc and with posibility to pan, level and effect-send the sounds individually. Would use it to create semi algo-rythmic rythms. I know I can use it as a controller already but I would prefer a ready-to-go internal module.

Anyway it is a wonderful tool as it is. Creativity is priceless!

Well, drum modules are around enough - even free. So we should'nt oversize Atomic. The same with sequencers to arrange songs. But it could be interesting to have 10 or 16 (small) button on the GUI, where sequences and adjustments could be stored as a content of the current fxp/fxb patch. These could more easy being switched in a sequencer or live performance.

My other suggestions as mentioned already:
- with "retrigger" disabled the sequence should not start from the beginning when a key is pressed after the before one is released
- a "skip" switch on each step, so this step is "jumped over" (not muted)
- when playing counterclockwise, the sequencer should not start from the beginning if I make the sequence shorter (with the outer LED ring), if that position is passed already.

A great machine so far!

No offence, but please speak for yourself WOK. I, for instance, do not need any pattern save functions because I can easily record the midi output in sonar and change the patterns from there. I would love to see this thing as a kind of ready to go groovebox. From here I can always change it to control my modules instead, but with a decent module, this might even not be necessary. Internal modules = lesser midi set ups = music created much faster, even if that goes for me only.

hi WOK,
to be honest i hate those tb303 sounds but would nevertheless find a glide function a worthy addition to atomic.

Of course I do, for who else should I ? 8)

The best thing of this stepsequencer is his simplicity combined with MIDI versatility.
If one whants drums in it, the next more effects, someone MUST have samples, the next one five controller lanes, Supersaw is a must, someone needs filtergate and so one, at the end there is a monstermix of Massive, Blue and Energy with 20 menus, 400 knobs, a 300 page pdf-manual and 70% CPU usage that no one really (can) use except as a preset machine.
Everything that could be done more flexible by connecting it via MIDI should be omit to keep it as lightweight as it is.

Well I am not really here to discuss my wishes with anyone, just state them. I do not think I will be convinced otherwise so spare your breath if its me you are talking to here.

And by the way, I think Goshs suggestion of a slide function is a good idea too. You can actually use it for other things than TB-riffs, just takes a little imagination and maybe some talent...

In thread like this, I mean started by the developers to hear some suggestions from their users, I find it rather tasteless to begin commenting on others suggestions and telling them what to and then put forward your own as these were the only sensible wishes to consider. So I will ask again a little less nicely than last time: Dear WOK, please, with sugar and cream on top: Just STFU and stick to your own ideas thank U!

I would agree that users should just post their suggestions. It is up for us developers to pick which ones, although heathy discussion is fine.

Thanks for all the suggs so far.

From a support mail:

SUBJECT = Atomic
COMMENTS = First of all Id like to congratulate you for making this awesome
piece of software... Ive tried the demo and Im very impressed. its something ive
been wanting for such a long time...a great modular style sequencer as a VSTi!!!
I was playing with it and so far everything seems to be
great

I do have a few suggestions:

1. I did notice that when you elongate the gates, it sounds like its in a poly
mode as notes overlap, which is completely amazing as it travels thru the pattern
so please dont change that!!! but, there should be a way to get the internal synth
to go into a straight legato mono mode that only glides when notes overlap... It
already kinda does this if you make the lengths just how you want them, but there
should be a mode that gets it into a true mono mode so when you make the gates long
they stop on the next note on and it can rest or glide to the next note.

Please dont change its current state as I love it as is, but if it can be set into
a solid mono mode with a switch and leave it untouched then it would be fantastic

2. Also Id love to see a swing knob! it be great to shuffle the rhythm as well.

3. A chord mode for the arpeggiator

4. and lastly pattern banks that are automated via VST with buttons.. 8 to 16 would
suffice, that way you can really compose a line throughout a song and not have to
pull up 2 3 4 instances and mimic each other just for the sake of staying realtime.

these would just completely top it off with frosting and be the best one stop shop
for sequencing Ive seen in step form.

Thanks Again, I will be purchasing it asap

From a PM
Greetings Tim,

I really love your Atomic synth, however, there are a few additions I need included before I'm willing to buy. I thought it better to PM you then post it on the forum and possibly discourage another potential customer. I understand Atomic is probably fully complete as far you're concerned, so this is just an FYI, letting you know what it would take for me to buy it, and what a few other users may want too.

I use FL Studio 8

1- Midi Learn - I'm just too lazy and busy in my life to fuss around too much, and it'd be so easy to just right click on one of the 16 step knobs, click on 'Link to Controller', turn a knob on my UC-16 and have it move Atomics knob just like that. I never CC map anything to my controllers, I get impatient easily and don't like to mess around too much, if I had more time, maybe it'd be a little different. I understand the work around isn't too difficult, but it's enough to put me off from buying. (probably would be willing to put up with a little fuss if you added my second request)

2 - Step Sequencer with bank and pattern saves, like how I think Orion works for a lot of things (I've never actually used the Orion Sequencer), or like the banks and patterns on this Creamware plug-in (I've never used it either) http://www.zargmusic.com/nss-folder/pictures/Solar is_Sequencer_Page2.jpg

With these two things, you'd be really making my life easy, and having something really amazing that I think others would go nuts for once they understood what it could do, yourself included.

In FL Studio I have to use the mouse and click on the different notes (or use the piano roll), which is ok, but I want to turn a knob instead, more immediate etc. With your synth I could do that with 16 notes, but that's it, unless I change it all in real time while recording (good luck). But if you add a step pattern option, it would be the ultimate solution that I've been looking for when using FL Studio. Imagine what power this gives you when using midi out on your external hardware synths... You could easily compose full sequences and songs just using your plug-in by itself practically. It's something I've been looking for, and waiting for for quite some time, this could be it.

Not sure if I've explained everything the best I could, but hopefully you understand where I'm coming form, and see the even more amazing potential this synth has.

Thanks for your time, I've always appreciated all you do for the music community.

thx Tim...

that link I added didn't go to the right place... looks like teacue has kind of made a comment in that realm about the banks and patterns which sounds pretty good. Here's what I had been thinking. Image

The whole thing I'm looking for is something that interfaces with my UC-16 Image so that I can turn the knobs quickly to get new notes and patterns, instead of using the mouse to enter the notes in FL Studio.
