Hello, I've been using the receptor version of Rhino2 successfully through wine for some time, and I decided to get the 'Everything bundle' from Daniel Maurer after some extensive demo listening (I wget'ed the whole mp3 collection on to my zen :hihi:).

Some lovely patches here, but many of them makes energyXT2 freeze (every time I try them I might add) without any error message.. I just need to restart eXT2 and choose a working patch to get going again.

Anyone been using Rhino2 through wine this way and have the same problem? Can't remember any of the free banks causing eXT2 to freeze like this. I suspect it might have to do with the sample packs provided, as none of the free banks have that..

I don't have a simular set-up to test your problem. However, some of my banks don't have additional wave sets; are they causing a problem? There is a second, free wave add-on availabe in the private section of 'Tick's page that was made by me; are these waves causing problems, too?

Naming specific patches might help since the internal sequencer used on some can cause processor overload on some computers...

Hello, and thanks for the reply! :)

I don't think it's a cpu freeze, 'cause I can still click and drag the sliders and change patches, it's just the playback that stops and refuse to start until I restart (even if I remove the Rhino2 instance from the track).. I can close down the app like normal. I've got a dual core processor, and Rhino2 hasn't caused any cpu overload so far, it usually uses about 10%..

As for specific patches, many of the Oberheim ones seems to cause it, the first patch 'Classic Rez Sweep' always hangs for instance.

I'll try one from the add-on when I get home later and see if I can reproduce it.

Classic Rez uses a long sample which must load fully before it sounds: playing during the load cycle could cause problems. My computer had no problems playing that bank; it's a Core 2 Duo running Vista.

Sometimes, Rhino will make my audio card stop working; usually when running through several patches quickly. The GUI still works but no audio. I'll try to start another audio application to see if it has failed, as well, and will have to reboot to fix it. This seems to happen when my audio buffer is set to super low latency; higher values may solve your problem.

Let me know what happens.

I've experimented cpu spikes too changing presets that need samples loading. Actually I have a system that can handle those but in the past i had trouble browsing presets. I'm on Project5.

Btw, Daniel, any new arrival? :)

Currently under construction is a bank using nature and industrial sounds to cover new sonic ground for Rhino. A jet flying at 40,000 ft makes a unique sound that will be available as a Rhino waveform. Look for demos in a few weeks!

Ok, booted into Vista just to test, and both Rhino2 regular and receptor versions works well with all patches I've tried so far. So it's only a linux issue at least..

Bo, this bank will be right up your alley! It is still about a month away from being ready for release. :( Right now looping waves is taking my time.

Fred-Hal, maybe if you PM 'Tick, he might have some insights into what is happening. I cannot check Linux. :?

Just thought I'd update this thread with some new info.

Seems it's neither Rhino nor Daniel's banks that is causing trouble, but eXT2.. I figured I'd try FL8 through wine today, and all patches works great with the Rhino2 receptor version there. :)
