The plugiator is just the plugiator.

Its a bunch of creamware plug-ins in plastic box for a dirt cheap price.
The plugins were originally designed for a platform that holds many effects as complement.
Well, plugiator is only cheap referring to other scope based solutions.

Scope is tied to a PC and does not work stand alone, right? So you can't compare that. Same with a 19" box tied to a Notebook.

Technically I can add as many little boxes (includng plugiator) as I want and tie them together so that all can possibly do what I like, but is the result practical, compact, transportable, high quality, easy to use? NO, I don't think so...

But to get it even simpler:

Plugiator has a mic input... great! But there is no gain pot :( Means: if I use another mic, I have to reprogram all patches' mic levels! Ok, there is an encoder on the plugiators matrix for that too, but without PC you can't see any levelling, not even any simple level reference... Compare some statements in the Messe08 videos "Plugiator is meant for live use", "...you never need a PC, never..." really? 10 recall buttons are a bit few to qualify something for live use.

Just to refer to a nice bug, if you sent a program change via midi, the number on plugiator doesn't update, so you have no clue which program is selected... nice for live use, isn't it?

Wanna sync the delay to the midi clock? Does not work! Well, you might answer, my minimoog never had a delay, it's no different on scope and the sound isn't too well either... but what the heck does this interest me today!

Compared to the competition the Plugiator may be too simple... and a "low" price is no excuse for any flaw. Just to end with, why emulating the discomfort of the past as well... :-o

Ok, to state something offending ;) the plugiator is still too expensive for what it is...

kmonkey wrote:Hi TiUser. In short can you tell me does this plugiator thing work like it should or not? I mean in terms of technical aspect. I dont want to discuss which synth is ubersuperduper which is not.I have scope so i can make my own opinion on that. Personally i am not interested but i have a friend which is considering to buy one unit for live use. So informations from you will be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for answer!
How do you mean that: "does it work like it should?"... "...technically?"

What does your friend expect?

As said, I would not recommend the plugiator as a main instrument.

If you don't rely on instant sound changes, one sound without effects is ok and you don't mind little niggles I would state a very careful "yes, give it a try"...

...but I can't take any responsibility for "does it work like it should?"... "...technically?" :D

Compared to other gear I own - including some comparably old stuff - I find the plugiator still restrictive in one or another way...

The audio quality itself is good for live use - no clue about studio grade...

...and to add, I personally still haven't decided yet to finally keep it... :help:

Hi Folks,

for those who are able to read german language, here is a brand new review about plugiator:

I'm confused. Is plugiator creamware or a different company?

Hi All

I've been testing a Mac version of the Plug-in manager, and it seems to do all it's supposed to. Also, I have been checking out a number of Cubase panels for MiniMax, Vocodizer, Pro-12, Lightwave, Prodyssey and FMagia. All working well on my Mac with Cubase 4.1.

I've been doing some recording with Pro-12, Prodyssey and Vocodizer, and the quality I'm getting is very pleasing for synth work. Many of my analogue synths are definitely noisier :)

I can appreciate the points that everyone is making about authenticity, zipper noise, etc. but for me the bottom line is how useful the sound is. Personally I am enjoying the quality of the emulations and am satisfied with the overall usefullness of the Plugiator. It sits nicely with my Blofeld, and works in well with my laptop Mac travelling setup.

I have a Pulsar card in an old G3 Mac in my studio, and enjoy using that with my main studio setup, especially the Modular synth, but to get the sounds of Creamware's best efforts in a solid, metal box for the price of the Plugiator is a great thing for me.

The heritage is creamware technology. Two new companies hold rights on that, named SonicCore and UseAudio. Creamware as company doesn't exist any more. Plugiator is made by UseAudio :!:

Read the german review in Amazona where you can find an interesting suggestion... Because the mic input is rated as very noisy and low level there, there is a new application for that... it can be mixed to the synth sounds to get them sounding more authentic and more vintage...

...ever tried that? :hihi:

:?: By the way, can some who have already purchased the additional plugins yet, describe the process? Did you get it online with UseAudio and download, did you order with an online shop or buy the stuff at your local dealer? What payment options are there? Did you purchase single plugins or the whole bunch in one?

:?: I also would be interested if one can change registration from one to another unit later...

Hi Folks.

:?: Did anyone check out if it works to connect two plugiators (asx) via two USB connections to one PC and how the manager software behaves in that case?

 Uh... still haven't made my decision to keep the box but if I keep it I consider to add a second one later, most likely an asx board.

I want to use the ASB box just like a Powercore Firewire or UAD-1 vst plug meaning no A/D Conversion. Is this on the Sonic-core or Plugiator roadmap?

The Plugiator is just a stand alone midi synth module with an analogue stereo output. :-o

I am not sure about the other stuff you refer too, but plugiator is no external DSP add on box if you mean something like that. :!:

I have, It works like this..

Once you register you get a home page at use-audio that you log in to. There you can purchase the extra plugs and they e-mail the link for the special PIL file to download. On your homepage they give you a code to enter when installing.

It was pretty simple...I just haven't had any time to really dig in yet and this weekend doesn't look to promising :(

In regards to transferring to another box or asx module I highly doubt that is possible.

Thanks for the info.

How does payment work? Credit card only or other options? Is the connect secured during payment (HTTPS protocol)?

Once you go through the ordering prompts it directs you to a page where you pay via Paypal.
