Good to hear that at least one person here is not stuck in the "I have no creativity left!" hole.jens wrote:kritikon wrote:No responses ???
a MBcomp with sc per band? Are you shitting me? If this does what you say it does then its worth the $..
No insult to Vieris...good of him to make one and all that; but as he said - here's one - pretty well just because it was asked for.
It's one of those things that is only there because someone with no common sense thinks there ought to be one. I remember the thread about multiband comps with sidechains. It's complete overkill and unnecessary. Very soon the KvR webmyth will develop that multibands with individual sidechains are what pros use to make that something special. Whereas in truth, even widebands are rarely used with the sidechains. Sidechains aren't that useful. A good mix negates the need for one most times. Yeah, yeah...people will chip in with how useful it is to sidechain the bass with the kick - it's exactly places like KvR that brought into existence the notion that that technique is at all necessary. Once upon a time you just mixed your bass and kick properly and thumping and pumping tracks were made all the time without them. I can just hear in my head all the music that'll be put out soon with sidechained multibands...you thought RMSs of -8dBFS were too loud? Ain't heard nuthin' yet. We'll have square wave tunes with all individual bands square waved. Then we'll need 8 bands, then that won't be enough and we'll need 1024 band FFT based sooperdooper megamultibands with a sidechain on every single channel, that can be crosschained to every other channel.
Y'know...we're heading closer and closer to white noise being called music.![]()
you are a bit narrow-minded here - a sidechain can not only be used for ducking but also for modifying the control-signal with filters, distortion, etc.
A multiband with separate sidechain for each band is an awesomely powerful creative tool! How can anybody not understand that? Or perhaps some older people are still stuck in the thought that compressors are just dynamics tools for solving problems? I will never understand this..
Jens..
Cheers!

@Vieris:
Would it be possible to include a Feed-Back version of the multiband as well? I think it might sound pretty sweet!
Cheers!

I realized I also have to give some practical examples of why this particular feature is so powerful, even in the traditional "compressors are just tools for solving problems" mind set. Think about this:bmanic wrote: A multiband with separate sidechain for each band is an awesomely powerful creative tool! How can anybody not understand that? You can now, with the help of a modular host, chose exactly how much and from what part of the stereo spread, a band reacts to the incoming signal. This is VERY useful for mastering where you might want to make sure that the lowest band only reacts to the mid/mono information and is completely separated from the rest of the bands (unlinked). You can then route your own chosen mix of mid/side information to the rest of the bands and also choose how much you want them to be linked (cross feed of input signal).
The creative possibilities are enormous:
You can now make drum busses/loops/whatever pump in a never before heard way by making the bass stay steady (not reacting to the element of input that makes the compressor "pump") but instead make only the mid-band or top-band do that 'breathing' pump thingy. I'm sure this can be dialed in to sound awesome!
Anyhow, it boggles my mind that so few see the potential here..
I'll definitely add some audio examples and explanations to the "all about compressors thread", as soon as I have had some time playing around with this beast.
Cheers!

Sidechains are fun. Remember the first time you figured out how to set up your hardware compressor/gate so you could send drum machine hi-hat rhythms to your guitar power chords?bmanic wrote:Good to hear that at least one person here is not stuck in the "I have no creativity left!" hole.jens wrote: you are a bit narrow-minded here - a sidechain can not only be used for ducking but also for modifying the control-signal with filters, distortion, etc.

I don't know that I'll need this, and after a frustrating day of routing in FL and Reaper, don't know if I can justify the download, but I appreciate the concept and the freeness of the gift.

Aah! I think you are right! Hehehe.. I do recall more people thinking that the sidechain per band was a more of a "gimmick" tho. No?bduffy wrote:Actually, b, I think there was only one guy that didn't like the idea. Seems like everyone else dug it.

Without something like bidule or energyXT, it will be very frustrating. Hence I mentioned the modular host as a tool.Cordelia wrote: I don't know that I'll need this, and after a frustrating day of routing in FL and Reaper, don't know if I can justify the download, but I appreciate the concept and the freeness of the gift.
It ain't even possible within FL Studio as far as I know.

You're probably thinking of me. I kind of chimed in with Kritikon about being weary of the sidechaining-thing; and I did say that I probably wouldn't have a use for it, but disagreed with the latter as I was certain others, like you, definitely could!bmanic wrote:Aah! I mean, this is the ultimate in getting over self-imposed limitations in software! I mean, why the hell not? That's something I've been growing tired of too...since you pointed it out!

Yeah, and here are lots of case material around here, for instance guys who consequently go to threads were they can puke over something instead of going to threads about anything they like even though they have the choice at a daily basis. Real interesting!Shy wrote: You're a piece of work, Mr. "I have a Ph.D in psychology". Whoever you paid to give you that diploma should be put in prison.
And thanks again Vieris, I will check this out on some material tonight!

this works/sounds very good but for me it's a bit difficult to set up the bands using the cursor.
Thanks for the nice multi-band!
