must correct myself, there seems to be an original la2a that was was tube staged, though it still was controlled photoelectronic (optoelectronic)...
however, i'm sure there was an fet version by teletronix, too ... or i must be heavily mixing up something here ... will investigate further ...
edit:it seems i indeed did mix up something here, it seems there was no fet based la2a ...
edit2:
in fact i was bullshitting around completeley ... the detection stage on the la2a was always photoelectronic ...

Sonalksis and Sonnox are both based on SSL. The Sonnox Oxford EQ actually has both SSL and Neve curves to choose from, though I haven't done a serious comparison of it against the SSL or UAD-1 plug-ins. The Sonalksis SV-315 and Sonnox Oxford Dynamics are the two best native buss compressors I've used, far better than the Waves SSL stuff.
Under the DSP section, you forgot the SSL Duende and Powercore CL1B, both of which sound incredible!

Then there's still Sonalksis (the SV series) = Hypothetically lets say I maintain 10 digital DFC/Logic/MMC Neve consoles. One might say that Hypothetically i sometimes talk to the Neve guys. A little bird hinted that employees could of walked away with Capricorn code. Pretty low in my opinion. But who can trust a birdCompyfox wrote: Then there's still Sonalksis (the SV series), URS (the EQs), Sonnox, PSP Audioware, IKM T-RackS, Bombfactory, ... And exots like Eiosis AirEQ, AixCoustic ElectriQ, DigitalFishphones Spitfish/Blockfish and Magix AM|Suite, TbT LA2095, now even vieris new compressors, etc where I'm generally just lost in the dark.
So yeah, I hope we can continue on that.
URS (the EQs)
inside the CSP
1951 Program EQ - Tube = Pultec
1967 Console EQ - American 4 Band = API
1970 Console EQ - British 3 band Class A = Neve
1972 Console EQ - British 4 band Class A/B = Neve
1980 Console EQ - British 4 Band = SSL
URS A series = API
URS N series = Neve
URS S series = SSL
URS FullTec = Pultec
URS BLT EQ = Pultec
Bombfactory
LA2a, LA3a, 1176, & purple audio 1176 clone.
PSP Audioware = modeled but not a clones.
T-racks = Modeled but not a clones.
DigitalFishphones Spitfish/Blockfish = modeled but not a clones.
Magix AM|Suite
AM-Track = Modeled Feed-Forward VCA , Feed-back, & Tape saturation
AM-Phibia = OPTO comprssor, Tube stage, Many eq types, & guitar cab sim
vieris compressors = Well the names should tell all
Feed-Forward Comp 1 = Feed-Forward (Think API/DBX) with customizable detection circuit that can be as transparent or colored as you like. The drive is like overdriving a tube stage. The filters can be used to emulate many other classic compressor types. These are not clones i just took my favorite parts from the classics i have used.
Feed-Back Comp 1 - (Think Neve) Same components as Feed-Forward but with a Feeb-Back detection circuit

Hi Vieris.
Loving the sound your getting with Feed-Forward on the demo!
Is there any chance of having presets for this comp?
Also, what eq's are you using?

again i might be wrong, but:Uncle E wrote:Sonalksis and Sonnox are both based on SSL.
the two main guys who started sonalksis back then worked for neve, and as i recall it, they said that their eq is based on the knowledge they've gained at neve's company, not more ... as i understood it, the sv512 eq is their own eq ...
correct ... 2x 12ax7a, 1x 12bh7a and 1x 6aq5 ...Uncle E wrote:The LA2A has 4 tubes. You may be thinking of the LA3 or later.

We're definitely getting somewhere. Heck I just wish Bombfactory would be native, I'd use them all the time.
Looks like it's still down on whether or not Sonalksis is Neve or SSL, though I DO remember from the skin that it's more like SSL, but I can be mistaken that it's acutally Neve (I do remember different coloured EQ knobs there, the setup from the knobs alone are intruiging).
Also... what is the TbT 2095LA now "exactly"? And does bootsy count to the big boys in terms of "emulations" now, too? What about Compressive? So many questions, so much to learn...
And I do wish that URS would be less CPU intensive with their native versions, then again, there're still TDM versions... if I had ProTools HD and the needed funds.

Mine, in terms of the Sonalksis plugins. Do you maybe know "which" ones actually, vieris?
Also which ones of the "Bombs" are what mayhaps?
Sascha Eversmeier can definitely answer more about his AM|suites, though I remember him saying at the last Musikmesse "they're not built after something specific, just aimed at old analog sound and response".
Voxengo uses impulses for their "Analog Flux" channelstrips, same with their tape simulation. Also forgot to mention Joeren Breebart with Ferox (though this is more like a channelstrip/saturation/amp thing), which'd be a bit too excessive if we expand that topic. So let's keep it at where we are now.
And since Daniel from TbT is in here, mind to fill us in on your plugin creations, whether or not they're built after something?

exept the custom one from bombfactory they're all modelled of what they look like ... obviously ... the la2a and the 1176 we're really good, i used them constantly ... though i have used the originals quite often, i never had the chance to compare them one on one ...Compyfox wrote:Also which ones of the "Bombs" are what mayhaps?

Hah, so I WAS paying attention after all.
Hm... Bombs and look = hardware... I need to take a more closer look at them again. I also remember that SMACK! was built after "something"... looks like I have to rewatch that Charles Dye (don't hit me, it's cool for inspiration and drooling over the ICON board) video tutorial again, as he mentiones what his used plugins are emulations of a lot.

The Sonalksis EQ SV-517 is great for some tasks but it's pretty phasey. Compared to other native plug-ins, it still ranks quite highly, but I'm not too impressed with the Neve if this is its algorithm. The SSL C200 algorithms that make up the Duende EQ are objectively technically better and sound more like a good analog EQ to my ears.vieris wrote:Then there's still Sonalksis (the SV series) = Hypothetically lets say I maintain 10 digital DFC/Logic/MMC Neve consoles. I agree. there is nothing analog about the Capricorn. It is one of Neve's early digital consoles. It wasn't even trying to be an analog model. I'm sure the built in eq's in most modern DAW's are more advanced. The modern DFC's that i deal with have some really nice DSP code. But i heard that the Capricorn is what leaked. What happened to the code or what has been changed i have know idea. But it was enough to persuade me to stay away for more then one reason.

Hm... I should dig out what the "Capricorn" is. I've never heard of it, so yeah... that input so far is much appreciated.
So Sonalksis = Neve Capricorn Digital Pult
Question as throw in:
T-RackS and Digital Fishphones, Feed-Forward or Feed-Back Compressors? Only if you know of course, vieris.
