i have received the following inquiry, if anyone is able to address it -

I load (say circuit) into a Midi track (1). I build a midi sequence on that track. I send the Midi to Circuit - all's well. I see in Cubase that Circuit is receiving midi. I open another Midi track (2) and load an Vsti - I assign the Midi input of the track to Circuit and the Midi out to the Vsti - I expect that on track one Circuit is "hearing" the Midi but there is no indication of this in your GUI. I expect to see this Midi arrive on track 2 via Circuit and play the Vsti - nothing. I went out to the article (on TonePort) suggested by a KVR person to the Sonar user in one of the treads in your forum and found that there was an article on Cubase SX3 with the same explaination for config - it was as I expected. It's what I configured - alas nada. Tried all the Midi channels etc. etc.

??

i'm taking notes (haven't taken time to actually search yet) to include in future manuals

Thanks Rurik, I'll raise my hand now as the Baffled Man.

I thought I knew Cubase fairly well and the concept of Rurik's pluggies but I guess not.

Load Midi output VST into a midi track set input to Null, set output to Series, Circuit, Talent - whichever,
Track 2 Load VSTi of choice, set Midi in to the Track 1 Pluggie, set Midi out to the VSTi - that's how it should go no? (headscratch emo needed)

Oh duh, I should add - put a midi file onto track 1 for midi playback.

Hi Carlbe,

I just was searching the kvr forums trying to figure out how to get hyperion to work in cubase 4 as well. I was able to get it to work like you said. I loaded hyperion and NI massive into the VST rack. Then I created 2 midi tracks, one for hyperion and one for massive. I assigned the first midi track output to hyperion, and I assigned the second midi track output to massive and the second midi track input to hyperion. After that, I pushed play and massive started playing notes from hyperion. Hope this helps.

i was doing something much like this the other night - i found you have to enable monitoring for the bridge midi track.. (little speaker icon)

Thanks for your replies - I suppose there is good news and bad news here for me.
The good news is as Brandon says, with the additional monitor light on from Mr. Ford442 - I followed my own procedure as last time and indeed Hyperion worked. Hurrah! Fun ensues.

The bad news is that Series did not... This leads me to believe that I am clueless how that pluggie works, or Talent, or Circuit. My expectation was to align them as I did with Hyperion, feed them a midi note and get a result, begin tweaking to learn. Hmmm...

One's time is finite and guessing grows to a sense of frustration...

Rurik! Please take pity on the less steeped in context of said pluggies, and provide the magic clue that fires these critters. Are they seeded just like Hyperion? No? Sorry for the ignorance. I will pay the Necessary Noob Tax to gain context I promise!

talent (which was created before i could place the algs in sems) should be discarded as it has horrible cpu usage. that's the only one that requires a midi note for output.

modern midi vst generate note info as long as the host clock is running. hyperion can be set to output note events when a midi note is received, however the standard mode is as series and circuit: midi output is entirely a function of the front panel.

if you run the host and no notes are being produced, something is not configured correctly.

Having thrown away my talent -

Indeed Hyperion works as you describe. Alas Series and Circuit do not in Cubase 4 under the exact same configs. Further concerns for me are in the fact that several basic controls (like setting the Beats/Meas, Note value or Channel on Circuit) on the GUI do not seem to be working. So clearly this is a case of incompatiblity unless I am mistaken.

I have Ext1.4 and Usine and if I have the time I'll try there and expect to see happiness. Until then if other Cubase 4 (4.1.0 build 726) Users have experienced the same problems as I, or not, I'd like to hear about it please.

fairly impractical given the number of hosts.

perhaps if i were a major company, however independent developers aren't budgeted for working versions of every host on the market

i am collecting this info as it is shared and will include it at some point, however, as you can see from the above.. all it takes is one update from cubase and the info is no longer pertinent.

given the volume of developers and hosts on the market, if you have a compatability question with any product, mine or otherwise, the most practical procedure is to check with other users. hopefully, someone out there is using the same combination as you and can assist you.

you may wish to mention which host you are using.

I think the manual could provide the basic premise and context a tad more simplistically, but of course there's no way to chase all host conditions for a single developer. I hope that none of my posts appear negative because those are not my feelings. I do get frustrated at times but, I'm extremely grateful that Rurik puts out the variety and volume of pluggies he does at a ridiculously generous financial entry point.

Not to mention his contribution to the SE world elsewhere...
Since I like to think of his work as a combination of techno-musical and socio-economic experimentation it will be interesting to see in the future how administration blends in...

Meanwhile Hyperion works just fine. I feel sort of silly putting these pluggies into a huge host like Cubase anyway; me thinks Usine or Ext will be better for the spirit of these generators...
