A song with Revalver MKIII JSX - Peavey

"Keep Mother Earth Alive" and this new track don't sound anything alike to me in terms of mood, tension, or even in the approach to instrumentation. The only constant is the forefront lead approach with a guitar hauling on a lot of drive. The new track is a summer-y, happy track and 'KMEA' is darker and more sinister.
Chuck Berry, on the other hand, is largely a one trick pony both compositionally and in terms of timbre. Historically important, but ultimately a lazy musician. And similarly, Satch seems more interested in his lines than the sound or construction of the whole song. Again, I like Satch and many of his pieces, but he just doesn't do it for me as an artist.

Fair enough and you don't have to admit that the first thing you do when listening to a new Dimi tune is scope out how much it sounds like Joe but I'd bet you do it just like I do.Shane Sanders wrote:"Keep Mother Earth Alive" and this new track don't sound anything alike to me in terms of mood, tension, or even in the approach to instrumentation. Well then you should know what I'm taking about then.Shane Sanders wrote:I know who Frank Marino is. I referenced him in one of the recent guitar threads. May have been the under-rated thread.
edit: Nope. It was the "The Great "Rhythm" Guitar Players?" thread.

Honestly, I think he's much more like Symphony X, compositionally speaking, than Satch. Tone-wise, he and Satch have some similarities that are exacerbated by humbucker use and Ibanez use. If Dimi used a Strat with Joe Bardens, much of the comparison would die away, imo. They both shred, and that kind of puts them in some sort of cross-pollinated Venn diagram to be sure.

Very accurate observations.Shane Sanders wrote:I think Satch does a ton of cliched Chuck Berry type rhythms and his drums and bass almost always sound like MIDI asleep at the wheel. Not always, a lot. There are definitely some Satch gems.
and every Satch track has something to love and envy. I'm not trying to run the guy down. But he's not a class A composer like Johnny A or even a laid back player like Chris Isaak. Both those guys eat JS for lunch, imo, even as players. 32nd notes are a tool but they don't mean diddly if they're soaring over elevator music.
From what I've on the links he's posted on KVR, I've found Dimitar mostly emulates Vai to a boring degree. But that lately he's moving slowly away from it. If he succeeds in that, or is even willing to (which would require even admitting it), then he may have widely acclaimed artistic merits ahead.

Wow...
Thanks for stopping by!!!!
What a conversation...thanks for this!!! This means a lot...
Friends I know that some of you think I play Vai's sounding things and the others Satch's things...
But thats the reality...I'm trying to escape...but I can assure you it is not that easy...
I'm trying everyday since 1993 when I've heard Vai's "Sex and Religion" and Satch "Extremist."
I promise I will work more and more on this!
But 1st of all I really enjoy the guitar and the sound that comes from it
And I'm glad to hear there are people that like my "buzz" in my tunes...
Thanks again

One of the best urban legends in the business associated with Frank Marino. Tell it hibidy... You know you want to....
Enjoying the DP you sold me too, btw.

I guess I just don't "get" this kind of guitar playing. It always bores me to hear stuff like this, to be honest.
HOWEVER.. I think the mix is really great, and the tones you've got from RVMKIII sound wicked also.
Just wish you'd play stuff more in line with what I think is good, but hey, that's a universal truism for anyone who doesn't like someone else's playing

my post prolly will go unnoticed after such a knowledgeable conversation which preceded (no sarcasm, it was) besides i by no means profess to be a guitar playing expert, which i'm not, but what struck my ear is that Dimitar was at several passages playing slightly ahead of the tempo and that's what kinda spoiled the whole listening experience for me

Hey, you are damn right!!! It was one take...and I didn't paid too much attention when recorded it yesterday because this is an old song that I made in 2003.LXNDR1 wrote: but what struck my ear is that Dimitar was at several passages playing slightly ahead of the tempo and that's what kinda spoiled the whole listening experience for me

I will re-record some passages for sure...!
Do you have some exact moments that struck your ear most ?
Any tips would be appreciated!!!
Thanks again!

Personally, I am a sucker for "personal style" when it comes to guitar players, so that was what I was always saying when commenting on Dimi's tunes. Something like "you can always hear where you're coming from, even until the moment when it becomes a sort of imitation!"
And while Dimi's influences are still clearly noticeable, it's getting quite a bit different IMO. And hey, how many guitar players are there that you can clearly tell what "school" they're coming from? Loads of them!
And well, all this is still not my style, but I defenitely admire Dimi's trying to develop his unique voice. So far he's doing fine and I enjoy his new stuff quite a bit more than the older works.
