Thanks Mike Leghorn,

Did you study music in school? My last music theory class was about 20th century techniques. I studied pieces from Stravinsky, Bartok, Carter, and Ligeti. My emphasis was jazz saxophone in a style of jazz called "Bebop" by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, etc...

That was my first electronic-music song; I wrote it with my girlfriend.

It was about a robin that we saw run over by a truck going too fast. We saw two robins in the street when all of a sudden a SUV drove by real fast and killed one of them. After the car drove away, the other robin flew down to check if it was still alive, and then flew away.

You did a great job bringing 20th century music here, you're the first person that i've heard use synths for it!

Thank you

@Electrobop: i have to say that your first version of the song really impressed me, though there were a couple of little glitches and the missing bass.

The second version caught me by surprise, because some of the magic was gone and there were still the glitches: I found some harmonies a little dissonant (it's like the pad sometimes "fight" with other instruments).

The theme and general mood of the first version were really great for me, but I ended up preferring VitaminD's submission; just wished to tell you that anyway I consider your song really good :)

It seems only one vote's missing (HiEnergy?), and it's fundamental in that it can decide who wins:

currently is 2 votes for me, 2 for dacaumodo, 2 for mleghorn, 1 for VitaminD, 1 for Electrobop.

Thrilling conclusion! :)

Hey thanks man. You're right, there were some dissonant harmonies.

My progression was originally i - VII - VI - Dim #vii. But I had a hard time with some of the arps running to fit the diminished chord. Since, I'm new to synths, I didn't bother to change the arps :hihi: so I had to alter a few things in the progression and melody. Instead of altering the arp, I tried to make it fit within the upper extensions of the chords. I heard the dissonances, and decided to keep them. After all, a robin did get his head run over.

"Anger" kinda lost me in the build-up but "Different" was very nicely done :)

I learned a great deal from listening to the way you blended your sounds together.

Thanks (to everybody telling nice words about my submissions)!

(Secret: "Anger" was made completely in headphones in less than two hours, I was worried of not being able to deliver it in time - I'm rather busy in these last days - so I did the best I could do in the restricted time window I had available).

I just fell in love myself with the "donna summer motorboat" bass line, so I got lazy on other faces of the song :D

The Donna Summer bass disco sequence is a great inspiration, made a sound alike demo for vol 1 or 2, cant remember which one:

Thanks for the compliments Electrobop. I didn't study music in school. I've been nuts about classical music for about 35 years. When I was in 8th grade, I took a chance and bought an LP of Beethoven's 3rd. I've never looked back since! I like all kinds of classical music, from pre-Baroque to contemporary. You mention some great 20th century composers. Stravinsky and Bartok are in my top ten all time favorites (right up there with Beethoven and Bach). I think Ligeti is one of the most original composers, and was one of the great musical geniuses of the 20th century.

If you've ever heard Ive's "Unanswered Question", the flute theme in my piece might sound familiar to you. The similarity was kind of an accident. I was going for ambiguous tonality.

I wonder why my approach to using synthesizers is so unique. I love classical music, and I love the sounds synthesizers can make (especially Zebra), so why can't I have both?

Hmmm no sign of HiEnergy so i'll make my comment post now. Hang in there...

no,no no, Subz.

Your beats are off the hook, I've been following your music.
I love what you did with "That's cool" and the message in that song.
I've even been to your myspace page.

To me, you are great! :hihi:
