Looks interesting but I am not installing Java runtime and setting up a database just to run it. My system is as stripped down as I can make it so I doubt it even has the sql stuff on it.

In order to run successfully, you'll need a MySQL Community Edition database,
and an SQL script to create the database tables that the Kangas Sound Editor needs.
You can find detailed instructions here:

So it looks like you need to set up your system as a SQL server and have Java runtime - that's at least 2 extra system processes for starters just to run this app.

We disagree with you slightly on your stats!
It's not "at least 2", it is one or two (there are a lot of computers out there - 700 million computers is one estimate we've came across - with Java already installed).
It's even possible it may be zero if MySQL Community Edition is already installed as well, although admitedly this is somewhat less likely than Java being installed.
We understand your concern, though, and in fact we're planning a version of the Kangas Sound Editor that has an embedded database to make installation easier, although performance may not be as good with this option so we will keep the Kangas Sound Editor proper.

Just wanted to let you know that I found the quiet pathos of 'Get Out Of My Life' deeply moving. It's not often that music alone brings me to tears but, well, my eyes are bleeding and my ears are in love.

Just to let you know, there is a new song release that has a Kangas Sound Editor backing track! The backing track has been 100% synthesised using this program.
You can listen to the first two minutes of this song for free at:

Good - that is a welcome development. I said " at least" because I wasn't sure just how many processes SQL server adds - I guessed at least one. And I don't have Java runtime on my Audio system but last time I did install it it had more than one process as it also installed a tray app and update checker (both could be disabled easily enough granted).roo2 wrote:G'day aMUSEd,aMUSEd wrote:So it looks like you need to set up your system as a SQL server and have Java runtime - that's at least 2 extra system processes for starters just to run this app.

G'day folks!
Just to let you know, there is now a new version of our Kangas Sound Editor (2.6.0), also on http://sourceforge.net/projects/kangasound/
This release includes a variant of the Kangas Sound Editor known as Kangas Sound Editor QI, that has an internal database engine (HSQL) instead of the MySQL Community Edition that is needed by the Kangas Sound Editor. Kangas Sound Editor QI is recommended for first time users of the Kangas Sound Editor, who are looking for a quicker install.

G'day folks!
Just to let you know, there is now a new version of our Kangas Sound Editor and Kangas Sound Editor QI (2.7.0), also on http://sourceforge.net/projects/kangasound/
this version has some improvements to try and make it a little more user-friendly (tooltips for the boxes in Edit View, and the finder and system info dialog now remember their size and position on screen), and also contains a bug fix to the scrollable properties of Sequence and Sound Boxes. See the change log: http://www.kangasound.com/downloads/change-history.html for full details.

G'day folks
Just to let you know, there is now a new version (2.8.0) of our Kangas Sound Editor and Kangas Sound Editor QI programs, also on http://sourceforge.net/projects/kangasound/
This version has some improvements in the handling of volume changes between successive repetitions of repetition groups (repetition groups allow whatever is inside them to be repeated, for instance a sound, chord group, recorded sound or even another repetition group). There are also some improvements in the installer program, most noticeably for the Kangas Sound Editor QI.
Let us know what you think

many thanks.
