I made a whole bunch of patches for it during the beta,
so did I, but not as prolific as Amused here
Scanned Synth can do really amazing pads that I found were quite unlike other synths out there. It has it's own sound, that is also very musical as well.

I contributed a large number of presets to the the 2.0 release as well. I definitely recommend Scanned Synth Pro if you want something unigue in your arsenal. Scanned Synthesis has a character all its own that is markedly different than subtractive/VA, FM, PD, additive or wavetabe synthesis. I find that several synths claim to utilize new methods of sound synthesis, yet end up sounding almost no different than the typical synthesis types we all know and love. Scanned Synth, however, IS different in overall character and has special quirks about it that make it immediately identifiable in a lineup. The leads can scream and bite in a way distinctly different than an FM synth. The pads can have the crystal clarity of an additive synth, but yet posses an almost mechanical and cold quality that neither FM nor PD can emulate. You can dial in basses with wavetable-like tones that sound like a fried, f**ked up PPG Wave (and I mean that in a good way).

Yep I feel that way too - some synths claim to have new methods of doing synthesis and yet they mainly make typical sounds like dancy leads and pads etc (albeit high quality) but Scanned Synthesis is very different and this synth is great for exploring new sonic territory. It has some complicated aspects but now the gui is better organised (thinking back to how it first looked) it's not that difficult and can yield good results fairly quickly. It also invites exploration.Xenos wrote:Scanned Synthesis has a character all its own that is markedly different than subtractive/VA, FM, PD, additive or wavetabe synthesis. Thanks for saying so many nice things about Scanned Synth Pro. I really like to hear things like this.
I would also be really interested to hear from people who have tried the demo version but not yet taken the plunge and bought SSP2. I have created a new topic for this at:

Dan Maurer has produced an amazing new sound bank for Scanned Synth Pro. Even I'm surprised at some of the sounds he's managed to get out of it. Have a look here:
