if you want to do dc08, perhaps sorting the admin out earlier would be prudent.

feel like volunteering?

I don't know if I've got enough time to run the whole DC, but I volunteer to help out in one form or another. I agree with the suggestion of having several people handling the various tasks. That should help ease the workload on those involved, as well as give people a bit of backup in case personal life gets in the way.

Xoxos is right, the clock is ticking

I'm with you guys, willing to help out, but same problem here as Ugo tho...
Plus, we should maybe sort out how you can both co-organize and contribute a submission. That would probably increase the number of volunteers

Maybe Tuz or Ben could make a statement about what are the plans and how we could be of help?

I don't know if that is advisable. Considering the noise some people make when something they don't like so much happens to win a top spot, can you imagine the flame-fest and accusations that would fly if an organizer won? Some people would no doubt start suggesting that the DC was rigged and unfair. To avoid potential concerns of this nature, I think that it would be best if organizers did not enter any software into the contest and instead only donated their time towards running the event.

yeah you're right Ugo.

Still, maybe contributors can take some of the tediousness away from organizers, eg by a self-service website for registering, uploading & configuring entries & their fixes. Those could then be reviewed by organizers before going live. I guess it must have been tough on Tuz & Ben to do all of this manually for 40+ entries.

Same thing (but strictly separated :-) ) is thinkable for registering sponsors & their prize donations

I doubt honnestly I got the skill to run the entire arrangement on my own, but if I can help out, and if I got the time needed then I'm willing to put in work for this contest. I jost don't see how I can help out at the moment tho.

I think first we need to get more detailed info from Ben and Tolga as to what their plans are for this year and how they, after having handled it for two years, think it could be better organized. From there we'll be able to get a better idea of how many people are needed and how much time will be expected of each.

Is it a little sad that the only people who seem interested are the devs themselves? Or doesn't this forum make it to the 'latest posts' summary? (I check it through rss...)

If no devs are involved in the vote processing then there isn't really a reason for them not to be involved in the organisation though I'm fully aware of how some people will perceive it...

there are some others (non devs) who have previously offered to *assist*. the ones i noted are fairly busy people.

when dc08 is officially announced i'm more than willing to make the "traditional" first donation of $500.00. :)

dc is a good thing. it should happen. i'll help as much as i can to get you guys as much publicity as possible.

Any news? Will it be a DC08 or not?
