Much time has passed since the last entry. Is CME UF70 now stable with the newest drivers? Want to buy one but am not sure after reading these entries...

and does anyone have experience with the CME UF80. I've been thinking about buying that one. I've also considered the VX-8. Any pros or cons?

I took the decision of not to get one of those after having a reading at the cme's forums...

I guess all these cheap midi controllers have some kind of problem.

I the end, I got an even cheaper one...

I just checked the CME forum and I see what you mean. Not very encouraging. Things you wouldn't expect to go wrong even in a 50 dollar keyboard.

thanks for the info guys...just about to recommend one of these to a beginner player. these problems would have really put them off playing kbs.

I've thinking about buying CME in a past but have visited one fellow who owe it. He complained about lazy keys; You can't play fast coz keys don't returned in starting position as fast as they should. He really dislike his new keyboard.

I tried endless keyboards in local music shop and finally bought Edirol PCR - 800 through Thomann Cyberstore. Excellent keys, very playable. Velocity and all other things are as they should be.

O.k. I haven't find patch for my Cubase SE ( at this time ) so I programed it by myself in one hour. (for controlling all this 50 controllers - drum pads) and I'm just a musician, I don't have any programing skills. I recently upgraded Cubase SE to Cubase 4 Essential and it my patch still works.

So - I'm more than happy with my Edirol PCR-800. Way better than all other midi controllers I've tried in a past.

hello folks.
i just got my new CME UF 70 and i'm really disappointed.
playing the keys feels not good. they habe no "fall", they press up all the way down. further its hard to press them down at the beginning of the keys (yes i can play in other keys than C-major), but that's a problem of almost all newer keyboards. i have a yamaha EX5 for live-gigs and this keyboard is really a dream. On the UF 70 the Velocity behaviour isnt good. only with the velocity curve 6 (compressed) i have usable results.
then the rest is full of bugs. i can't assign the knobs, but the with thefaders i can do so. assinging some controllers to the faders like 172 (pitchpend) crahes the unit completely, so i have to restart with initializing procedure. sending a syx. file to the uf70 with the brain-software via usb connection crashes the uf completely. i don't kwow which paramaters are stored in a bank. because the uf70 does'nt behave as desribed in the (poor) manual. so that's what i found so far after 2 days of wasting time with this unit.

Return it. E-mu xboard61 is good, previous poster likes his Edirol a lot, many choices
that play well, and are bug-free, instead of free bugs!

I have an UF80 and I wish I never bought it. Sadly I did not return it in time as CME promised a new Firmware Version. Burt once again they lied and did not deliver anything. Now I ended up with a "Masterkeyboard" (!) that sends lower velocities on the black keys than on the white. Its impossible to play a proper piano with this piece of garbage.....

I have a CME UF6 that's a few years old now. The USB driver gave me problems in XP, so I switched to midi. It's been working great ever since, even after taking a tumble from my Hammond XK System. Much more reliable than my Axion 49.

It's hit and miss with this company... I also have a UF80 and love it. I only have one issue where one of the C keys (can't remember which one) doesn't appear to have the same bedding as all the other keys, because it sounds like hard plastic hitting hard plastic when pressed.

The velocity sensitivity was about right when I got it, but also had no problem adjusting the sensitivity.

Again, I've read so many reviews and responses about CME and it really is a 50/50 chance you get what's promised or you may get a piece of crap.

If you're going to buy online, just double check that the company you are purchasing from will cover the shipping costs if you need to send back.

Edit...

An E-Mu Xboard is not a replacement for CME. I also have a E-Mu Xboard 49 and the keys feel very cheap in comparison.

The Xboard is great if you want to play quickly/fast but have not developed the strength in your fingers to accomplish the same on weighted keys. The Xboard has spring action, whereas the CME UF series is weighted hammer action.

I think that's only the UF8. My UF6 definitely has simple "synth-style" keys, no hammer action.

Yeah, just looked at a couple product descriptions...

UF80, Weighted Hammer action and all others simply said semi-weighed action.

Just got my CME UF70.. major issues so far
