I think I am ready to take the next step and I'm thinking about getting StompIO.

I want to gig / jam again and need to get propper gear, more specifically, effects processors for my guitars. I have one option to go the POD or Digitek route at about half the price of StompIO, or I can take the Stomp option AND then I have to spend money getting a laptop. This is a serious capital layout, so I need to make sure I am doing the right thing.

Firstly, the upgrade price for StompIO seems to have gone up significantly since I got my Amplitube in the group buy.

Just 2 questions. Will these all have the same upgrade paths, as if we had bought the boxed versions down at the music store?

What will the cost be to upgrade to StompIO? So far, all I see listed for stompIO is the full priced hardware/software combo. What if we just want to buy the hardware alone? a lot of people may be interested in that after this promotion/group buy?
Answer 1: Yes. Exactly the same.

Answer 2: The cost of upgrading to the Stomp IO from this would be $699. which is the difference in price... but you et all of the extras that are exclusive to this group buy. So perhaps it is a better way to get Stomp IO than just buying it.
Now, the upgrade price is advertised as $799 AND I do not get the software that was supposed to be included. For a limited time only Metal is available as download, but then I still miss out on the Ampeg SVX and Amplitube live (plus the bonus disc which is not that great deal anyway). Does the original offer of $699 still stands? How do I claim it? I think this is a bit steep increase in price and reduction of benefits in a very short period.

Secondly, would I be allowed to install the software on the laptop to play live AND on my studio computer?

Thirdly, What does it sound like on stage? IS it as good as a live rig? I can not find enough reviews of people who actually used Stompio live. I am specifically talking about live use, as I got amplitube and I know what it sounds like in the studio. There a few possitive reviews here at Kvr, but almost as many indifferent reviews. Please, don't give me any "go and try it out" answers, as no shops here stock the thing, so I can not try it out (I live in a third world country, remember).

Another question I'd like to add

Fourthly, some of the presets on amplibube is extremely noisy, e.g. the Pinkwall preset. Without even plugging my guitar in the noise runs at -24db. Even if I turn the gain right down it still makes a terrible noise. Is this because of the old cheepo soundcard I have? Will it be any better when I get a new laptop?

In order to have gotten that price plus all the software, you would have had to have been a member of the GB.

That said, why don't you email allen at esoundz dot com ask him about it and tell esoundz that the beergeek sent you ;-)

I can't guarantee what they can do on top of which, it looks like they don't even have any stompio's....

You're here, you're creative, get a used desktop and cheap/used lcd and strap the PC to a handtruck, with the lcd on top, also strapped/wired/duk-taped etc, cheaper and harder to steal at a gig than a laptop! More interface options too. If needed, maybe install the works on a usb/firewire external drive, handy for backups too. Cheers :)
