I imagine if it were 15$ from the beginning, that alone would have limited its appeal so much that we wouldn't be talking about it now. I think Synth1 has a lot to do with being a good synth in the right place at the right time.

No illwill taken. I was half asleep at the time and was quite confused :hihi: But you hit on some very valid points. The probability of a clone of synth1 would likely not work and I can imagine the purists driving whatever developer completely mad.

ouroboros wrote:Over time, it's low-fi grit has been endearing as has it's simplicity: some comparable synths such as Galactix, have not fared as well in popular opinion because the guis were not as immediate to use.
I'd rather think it is because Galactix has a single preset slot only whereas synth1 has 1280 slots and in addition comes with a full bank that recreates all the GM midi sounds. This made much of the difference between synth1 and others I think, even though it is IMO more difficult to program/understand than other synths it somehow competes with.

But sure the GUI is kickass and very easy, especially when you've found a custom color that suits you.

Well I am saying this but I am not even sure I was into VSTs already when it first came out so I am not sure whether it had any competitors at all at the time actually.

Certainly some genius in it anyway.

 I would not wish that public relations nightmare on anyone!

that contain many excellent patches, with quite a variety, too, so a 2008 thanks, and OK to look forward to banks four and five when the randomizer appears?
:)
Thanks, glokraw, that is kind of you to say. :) If anything,a 4/5th bank would need to be an update of the first one, before the fx section was added. I will also never do basses the same way again: I built them off of c5 for smaller controllers, but people are used to dipping down to c3 for better sound, so lesson learned. Still a wonderful synth!

ThunderDrums wrote:Why hasn't anybody tried to make a clone of synth1? For all the love this gets and the odds that it will not be updated again it would probably be the only way to have a future for synth1. I know there are a couple freebie developers out there in KVR land, ever thought about doing this? Or maybe teaming together to build it, You would probably be hero numero uno with people hanging posters of you in their studio :hihi:
Have you noticed that you managed to ruin my topic ? :P
The topic was not about creating a clone of synth1... but a random
preset generator. So please comment on that or open a new topic for
your suggestion.

The synth1 might not be updated, but you can consider the random preset generator as an indirect update to extend the way to use synth1.

Post

Synth1 doesn't need an update, it's already perfect. :D

Post

almost ,would be better if envelope mod would work for osc 2 and 1 ,also with one more EQ and reverb synth1 would be perfect... aaand slightly bigger sound on low notes.

Nice effort but why not simply use Xlutop Chainer for ANY synth ?

The new version is easier to use, you will not have to edit any XML, unless you want to tweak the generator...
In case you want to:
To edit an XML file you need to open it with notepad (from inside notepad menu, Open...), or notepad++ or any other text editor.

I don't have a clue how to set it up.
Any one?
