IMHO, and for what it's worth, I see a lot of confusion in this thread between 'emotionally intense' and 'sappy and sentimental'. :hihi:
Music affects people differently, no? Is it not possible for each poster to have been "emotionally" moved by their picks?

a few more:

"Oh England my Lionheart" by Kate Bush

" The man with the child in his eyes" by Kate Bush (of course the vid is a little chessy though)

"Landslide" by Fleetwood mac

and contrary to most people, I prefer the Dixie Chicks' cover to that by Smashing Pumpkins

"I love you Porgy" as sung by Nina Simone

A lot of stuff by Radiohead really moves me. As some people have mentioned Street Spirit is a great one though I have to say one of their best top-to-bottom song collections is the My Iron Lung EP.

Also pretty much all of The Soft Bulletin by the Flaming Lips. That album takes you high, low and everywhere in between.

One of the songs that always gets me though is T.B. Sheets by Van Morrison.

Try A Little Tenderness Live- Otis Redding

If you let it, this will flat wear you out. Not so much an emotional experience but a serious ass mover.

Why is it the baldies get all emotional. I know a singer (not going to mention her name) from a well known eclictic band that does the same thing. She gets on stage and starts beraiding ppl in the audiance and balling and shit. Kinda funny to watch though still :hihi:

I think I saw Neal Young bus a few tears when singing Philadelphia. It always makes me laugh though.

Oh shit remember when jacko use to sing lady dude started crying HAHAHAA! Sobbing sods

Gluck - Melodie from "Orfeo ed Euridice"
Mahler's 5th Symphony
Chopin's Nocturnes
A lot of Enya's stuff

+1 for Johnny Cash and Barber (btw, Adagio for Strings is not necessarily his best work. You should check out his violin concerto. Simply gives you the shivers :-o)

A nice one is Bullet Boy by Massive Attack.

But I guess I need to listen to a lot more music.

Thank you koolkeys for making this topic :)

His best work is probably the Hermit Songs - Adagio is lovely but you can see how much he took from Khachaturian if you listen to his Gayane and Spartacus.

Wow, a lot of responses since I left! Some great stuff here indeed, including so many I've never heard of. I'll be finding some new stuff to listen to in this!
