You would do us all a HUGE SERVICE by scanning those Hackers!!! Those are SUPER RARE and very informative (from what I've heard).
It's been a while, but a few years back I did a search and found that someone had beat me to it and scanned a whole mess of back issues and posted them online.

If I can dig up the page again, I'll post here.

I knew I didn't dream that. Thanks Devon.

So many plugins, so little time...

Heh... I used to write for Transonic Hacker back when I was in college. Nice to see people still remember it. That was a great little zine.

I have been doing research on the MR Rack, SQR Rack and Fizmo and ran across it. I've decided to get none of them, although I'd still like to try out an SQR Rack someday, the Plus 32 version, that is.

teomi wrote:Mine is also the rack unit. Although it appears the DI-10 is installed (RCA plugs on the back) most likey it is not. It never came standard and even when the ASR was still in production it was always hard to come by.

The best way to check is to try setting up the ASR to sample from Digital (instead of main ins) and see if you get signal.

The way to interface it with Cubase is via the 'External fx' and 'external instrument' settings within VST connections. Your sound card must have multiple ins and outs. The only way to make it work is to hard wire the ASR to its own ins and outs...just like you would do with any hardware outboard. You then set which ins and outs the ASR works with, and Cubase does the rest.

You then add the ASR as an insert or send. It will be listed under 'external plug-ins'

it's not a step by step but it should put you in the right direction
Let me know if you need more help

Well, in addition to the 4 Aux outs, mine has 2 jacks labeled Digital I/O (Out In). What else could this be?

OK
Found this in the manual:

These 2 RCA-type connectors provide direct Digital Input and Output connection to and from the ASR-10 when the optional DI-10 Digital Interface is installed.

So, does this mean that the DI-10 plugs into these two RCA connectors?

Yes the DI10 connects to the RCA plugs. They are just dummies by default

You guys inspired me to finally make an demo mp3 of my old Fiz presets. A lot of them sound very similar but that is not entirely the synth's fault...it's more just because that is the sort of stuff I was into programming on it at the time.

This is nearly 8 minutes worth of stuff. I recorded it through my PreSonus Firebox into Sound Forge. Some normalizing, volume adjustments, and low level line noise reduction were made, but thats it. So this is the raw unprocessed sound of the Fiz you're hearing.

I had not messed with the Fiz in quite a while. It was fun to revisit and play around with it for a bit. :)

By the way if Fiz owners want these presets, just let me know.

:hyper:

I was just gonna ask that Ugo sir!

I thought it might be a bit cheeky tho  Great sounds! I have the rack presets if you want them... they are supposed to be different from the KB factory defaults...

Here you go. :)
ugo-fizmo-bank-1.zip

The presets are in sysex as a bank of 32 (bank 1). I used MIDIOX for the dump and it looks like it took ok. I used to have presets on bank 2 but it looks like I wiped them out at one point or another. (Probably to give myself room to start making new patches, then never got around to it.)

Yes, thanks, I would be interested in having a copy of those. I don't remember if I ever heard them.

There you go sir!

Let me know if you have any trouble - to my shame Ive not had a chance to try them yet  Drop me a line at dave_omahony(at)yahoo.com if you like - I have a couple of more banks and am interested in anything you may have :hihi:

I just noticed I have a bank called Ugos Organ

Are you on the Yahoo group for the Fiz? I think the only other presets I've got are the ones posted in the files area for the site. Technically I probably also have a copy of SoundEngine's Fizmo bank around here somewhere, but that's a commercial collection so I couldn't send it anyway.

That preset is in the batch I just uploaded too. I made an SoundDiver bank a long time ago that probably had the same presets in it that I just sent you, so if you've got that then you've probably already got all the presets I made. (I didn't create all that many.)
