Is anyone else having problems with importing longer WAV samples in Nitro Tracker? I can import them but when I try to trim them with the stylus, the application just hangs and I have to reboot the Nintendo. It happens with all the longer samples.

Part of the 'art' as you call it is actually being limited. If i have every single color and media to make art known to man at my fingertips, I'm going to make crap, if anything at all, because I don't know what to begin with.vurt wrote: you want to limit yourself? can i ask why?
seems a little closed minded to me for an artist/musician to opt to not use something outright
My best moments come from trying to beat my limitations. I.E. make a song with limited memory for samples not sound like it was limited, make a full song with something that was designed to just make rhythm or lead only, etc. etc.
With a ceiling over my head, I know what I need to do to get out and that's where my creativity comes from...not from having a cool idea for a song, but for wanting to disrupt the intention for the technology I'm using.

that is absolutely a valid point. i tend to force myself in the same direction to avoid getting fooled into thinking i 'need' the latest 'xyz vst'.
but with the state of technology now, i think that its VERY important to be open to new tools, generally.
cuz its very possible that a NEW tool can enhance what you *already* do, without just being a diversion.
and a tool as versatile as the DS has never really existed before. its one of the gizmos to watch!
yea, sometimes it doesnt like em. it can hang on short ones too...ikke wrote:Is anyone else having problems with importing longer WAV samples in Nitro Tracker? have you tried waiting like, a long time? on the long samples, it just takes a while to load.
and on REALLY long samples... they just wont load cuz they use up the memory in the DS! im not sure what the 'limit' is on a single sample though...
but, try waiting like a minute or two, cuz i had the same question when i started using that thing and realized that it just needs 20-30 seconds...

there is a world of difference between placing limits on what you use and refusing to use something.
so you have your limits in place i guess? what if you hear something you think might be useful at some point?
i would agree wuth what i think you suspect, that im talking about grabbing everything, will not help creativity, but thats nor what im suggesting you should do, im suggesting that yes have limitations, but dont be afraid to add or change bits once in a while.
i think limiting myself to just the ds using glitch shows that im all for limitations, well that and that ive spent far too much time on buses of late

exactly. its always the 'wag of the finger' at a particular technology, or a particular plugin.vurt wrote:

i find the negativity odd.
like, if i only used ONE thing for everything and i LOVED it and never thought about being limited, that would be great. it would be a positive thing.
but i dont wanna limit myself in some masochistic plot. as if to *really* be saying either "im working harder, nah,nah." OR, "no, i dont use THAT crap.."
it just comes from a negative place.
like when people order sandwiches and vocalize what they DONT want, instead of saying what they DO. i just dont get it.
thats the weird part!. really, in this particular instance, the ds IS that 'limited' tool thats being used...vurt wrote: i think limiting myself to just the ds using glitch shows that im all for limitations, well that and that ive spent far too much time on buses of late
but just wait!
yea, busses man. ds was made for it. you can catch some wifi when the bus stops and send some emails!

ikke wrote:highkoo, how much internal RAM does the DS have?
not that i know much about it, technically speaking. i really dont know how all the crazy things it does are done with 4MB of ram...Technical specifications
* Mass: 275 grams (9.7 ounces).
* Physical dimensions: 148.7 x 84.7 x 28.9 mm (5.85 x 3.33 x 1.13 inches).
* Screens: Two separate 3-inch TFT LCD, resolution of 256 x 192 pixels, dimensions of 62 x 46 mm and 77 mm diagonal, and a dot pitch of 0.24 mm. The gap between the screens is approximately 21 mm, equivalent to about 92 "hidden" lines. The lowermost display of the Nintendo DS is overlaid with a resistive touchscreen, which registers pressure from one point on the screen at a time, averaging multiple points of contact if necessary.
* CPUs: Two ARM processors, an ARM946E-S main CPU and ARM7TDMI co-processor at clock speeds of 67 MHz and 33 MHz respectively. The ARM946E-S CPU processes 3D rendering and the ARM7TDMI processes 2D rendering for DS games and Game boy Advance gameplay.
* RAM: 4 MB of Mobile RAM
* Voltage: 1.65 volts required
* Storage: 256 kB of Serial Flash Memory
* Wireless: 802.11 + Nintendo Original Protocol
* Wi-Fi: Built-in 802.11 Wireless Network Connection (802.11b/g compatible with WEP encryption support only)

A Sidstation also sounds thin.
Besides, most of the time I prefer thin sounds to fit the mix
Not that I prefer a friggin Nintendo to create tunes but it sure is usable and plenty of fun
