That's all I need to know. Thanks for the insight! :D
Whoohoot!

Yes - thank you aciddose! This is good news.
Thanks too for turning a little bit more attention to this great synth. Now that patch compatibility is lcoked i think we will see some nice preset banks for this, and a growing popularity amongst the masses ;)

I totally agrea with what you said in your response about this synth being in its own league. But I think you underestimate the matter in terms of it not being practical commercially (that is if by practicle you mean commercially viable, and not practical as in the amount of time/attention that you would need to expend should you charge for it?). People would pay for this synth, especially once preset banks start becoming available, and as a new GUI appears (current one just fine IMO)

At any rate, thank you again and success with your new shiny object - let's hope it brings you many many more shiny objects ;)
I think it's pretty safe to make some speculations here. I think it was mentioned pages ago that XHip's synthesis architecture is what he's basing his hardware synthesizer on, only without the digital limitations of sample rate vs. aliasing. If AD was to finish and sell his hardware synthesizer project to the general public, would its patches be compatible with XHip VSTi? (Actually the other question is, would your hardware variant suffer from any problems when using maximum unison?)

It's most certainly a unique VA, and it can make some very nice tones. The GUI is a little bit confusing (not as much as certain other virtual synths...) but if in any case, this would easily be a high contender on any VA in the market. (It's still below 100KB!!! Talk about space-efficient! Though CPU usage is a different case.)

Anyway, best with the success of development. With the official guarantee of patch-format compatibility from hereon, whether or not people will take the time to make XHip's synthesis shine, I think it's time people start appreciating XHip

Of course, just one more question. The PCM feature... ICBF looking through pages of this topic, what are the prerequisite features for use?

A couple of months ago I was looking for a vsti to purchase and this one would have definately made my shortlist, if i hadn't just purchased it outright that is!

Oh well, happy with a freebie :)
I vote for Accidose to partner with Algomusic, Tim C and Boris K adding sounds and gui,
and sell with 256 patches at around $50...then he can roll back some $$$ into amazing hardware innovations, his apparent priority. I'm all for new innovative hardware. It's getting boring shopping for 'new' retread products at music stores, and webshops... 'yeah this one is really round, but this one for only $100 more is both round and thick, and for only $50 more, this deluxe edition has innovative tread pattern, a stripe, and it won't go flat in high humidity'
Cheers :)

it's been this way since last year at this time, i think.

no, i never said anything about hardware being like xhip or even related at all. i'm just trying to do a basic mono. even implementing xhip as-is in hardware would be like $10,000 per unit at least, maybe more. the thing would be massive and require 100s of watts of power. that's just silly.

xhip isnt practical to sell because the time i'd need to invest in order to sell it (yes, it requires some management you know?) even if i only sold text files saying "ok, here you go, you own your copy. whatever that means." would be much more than the money i'd ever get out of it.

think of it this way: i need to make an hourly wage of about $12 minimum to remain out of poverty - do the math. there is no way in hell xhip could ever sell that many copies, or make that much in total revenues even with an optimum price. yeah, so maybe i could buy myself some nachos once per week.. it really isnt worth it to me, or to anybody out there. i can already buy myself nachos a heck of a lot more often while not selling xhip :P

Does 0.6.14.9.smallgui contain the locked down patch format?

Holy crap! First Augur, now Xhip. I am a little embarrassed to admit I am way late to the Xhip party. Maybe I shouldn't be so closed minded in my impression of freeware plugs. This sucker is free and ...it...is...GOOD! The CPU usage is rather nasty and needs to be optimized (unison feature), but the sound quality is excellent. Xhip is clearly a labor of love and kudos goes out to Acidose for creating it.
I've been playing with various freeware plugs over the last few days just for shits and giggles (and a much needed break-- I am working on 4 projects simultaneously at this writing) and am finding out that freeware has come a long ways. The last time I touched freeware was back in 2003 and quite frankly I was so disgusted with the crummy quality that I made the switch to a "payware only" personal policy and replaced every freeware I had with what I thought to be a better quality, payware equivalent. I am very pleased to see that there are some free plugs out there nowadays that bring pro quality sound to folks who simply can not afford to shell out a whole friggin week's pay to buy a decent synth.
Now that the preset management for Xhip has been stablized, I will be glad to contribute some sound design and looped wav samples once my current workload lightens up.

Not surprising given Aciddose's general, and well vocalised, disdain for the "patch kiddies".

Good news nonetheless :tu:

Also good to hear you may be contributing soon Xenos ;)

The patch format was locked down eons ago :)
No one posted any patches since then, though :(

I should make a little compilation. I've just noticed that you can actually rename the patches using the host :dog:
Main drawback right now is the control stuff not being saved, but not that it stops people from making useful banks.

the gsoto gui can happen any time, gsoto has just been busy and so have i. the todo list on the xhip site still applies just as it always has, as does my motto: "i don't know when, whenever i get around to it."
