Been using this since it first came out years ago.

Reminds me of my old Ensoniq SD1 which was my main workhorse
in the studio at the time, for about 7-8 years.

I know it's not supposed to sound like it, but it is the only VSTi
that encompasses the full range of tonality so well - Hard sounds
that are soft, Warm sounds that cut through....

Anyway, I think it sounds a lot like the Ensoniq SD1.
And the SQ80 of course.
In fact, I don't remember the SQ80 ever sounding so good!

Oh and you have really nailed that blue/green plasma display
that they had. Can't wait to check out the new version.

no, its ok now.. i reloaded it and its fine now.. i think my midi keyboard just did something wierd.. volume is fine!

Can anyone clue me in as to what the .ini file is for? It seems to work fine (the same) without it.

Excellent update btw, although i would consider it more of a brand new offering.

I'm a bit ashamed of collecting donations, but it's becoming difficult to keep working on the SQ8L/SQ8X without earning some money.

About the .ini file:
It contains GUI and emulation settings (all settings made in the options menu). If you delete the file, the SQ8L will revert to default settings and save them in a new .ini file. So, you won't get rid of it!

I am just knocked out by this little beauty.
So much so, that I spent about five hours last night creating
a new patch bank for it - 64 new sounds in all.

It covers a wide range of areas so just check it out.
Some are a little derivative of the factory sound bank
(doh, you don't think I did 64 sounds in five hours from
the 'init' patch, did you ?

), but most are very different
with some that are unlike anything else you will have heard
from this baby so far...

As it is a user bank, I feel it is common sense to leave some
patches free, so you can copy variations across to the new
blank 'init' patches - that way you can experiment and not
run out of space - you can always load another bank in the other
user slot anyway. Hence 64 patches only using up half of the user
space.

And I must say:
Sigi, the new patch implementation you have done is top notch.
Whereas before it was slightly confusing - though perfectly functional,
now you have created what must be one of the best patch management
systems amongst any VSTi I have come across - a real joy to work with!
7 hours in total playing about in energyXT, and not one crash or glitch.
Solid as a rock. It always was.

And as for the interface - oh man, what can I say?
I am in VSTi heaven. Welt Klasse.

And thank you for the excellent instructional 'readme' file you
have included. Obviously a lot of time and effort went into this
labour of love and the quality just shines through every aspect
of this project.

I will be getting this one when it comes out - ein superangebot!

And look forward to a few more soundbanks from me as well!

Had a chance to finally try the new update (overhaul?). Love it even more than before. Here's a question. Can I use the patches in my ESQ-1? I don't know squat about this stuff, so pardon me if this is a dumb question.

Yes you can. I haven't tried it but under the file menu there are options to send/recieve sysex directly to a ESQ/SQ80. If not try the free soundlib librarian, it worked fine for me.
