Other than learning a second (or third) language, there's no compelling evidence that being young gives any help with learning, and a lack of motivation is even more likely at a young age. You might feel like being 28 is near the end of the learning curve, but in fact the best is yet to come because the more you learn in life, the more you appreciate and are motivated. I think the key element, which has been mentioned several times, is time itself. If you can carve out 30 minutes to an hour each day, or at least three or four times a week, you will make steady, if not spectacular, progress toward your goal. I wish you the best in this.
