No, it's not. I gave a few other choices in my previous post.

First, there's the DSI Evolver Keyboard. Hybrid monosynth (half analog, half digital), but much more flexible and interesting than the LP, plus it has a better interface.

There's also the Analogue Solutions Leipzig, which right now is only available in rack form, but they're planning to release a keyboard version:

I would also consider non-keyboard synths, like the FutureRetro XS. Just get a decent controller. I use a couple of old Evolution (now M-Audio) keyboards and they're just fine (whether they're plugged to the USB or not). In any case, the possibilities of the XS are amazing, since it's semi-modular. You could even use it with your Neptune. Same thing applies to the dotcom entry level system (the advantage here is that you don't have to shell out the $1400 at once).

Depends on who you marry. I got married last year. When a package shows up on my doorstep, my wife doesn't even ask me what's in it. Chinese wives are good.

That Leipzig keyboard looks cool. I'll be keeping an eye on that one. I was previously sizing up an Analogue solutions Semblance but the Neptune 2 was cheaper.

I think that the LP and the new LP2 simply costs too much compared to a Voyager RME. I was getting an LP but ended throwing a little bit more $$$ and bought a Voyager RME. 1 osc more... everything on the panel with a lot of knobs, dual filter LP/LP and LP/HP (which move your sound palette to the korg MS world), FM, filter in (great adding an aural exciter or eq), a little more "creamy sound" and so on... well LP is not the best choice.

All this if you need the Moog sound... because with that amount of cash you'll get a Prophet 08 or best of the best an A6 Alesis Andromeda... so... is up to you...

FutureRetro synths sound fantastic. I'd seriously consider getting an XS myself if I didn't already have an FR-777.

As far as wives go, I recently had this conversation with mine:
Me: Moog just came out with a guitar. It looks pretty impressive.
Her: Really? How much is it?
Me: $6,500.
Her: Oh. Are you going to get one?
Me: Um. No.

The impression I'm getting from several posts on this thread is that people think the Little Phatty is somewhat overpriced for what it is. What that be an accurate assessment?

Oh my God! This thing sounds absolutely awesome!! Up to recently I didn't even realise the Andromeda A6 was an analogue synth!! Never really paid it much attention, not least because it's a beast of a synth that looks like it would cost the Earth be it analogue or digital. Sounds bloody nice though. Amazing infact. It's clearly easily capable of some monster leads/basses as it is at lush strings. I want one! Gear lust it's a terrible thing (especially if your married, where it becomes pure fantasy!!)

I love my Andy. Unless you are very, very particular on how your analog sounds (I.E. a Moog or a Roland or whatever) it's the only analog synth to consider. If you bypass the digital fx section and listen with headphones you get a pure, unadulterated analog signal path. Love. Love. Love.

It has the best CS80 emulation I've ever heard. Utterly weep-worthy.
It can turn it's massive, massive hand to techno, trance, 'golden era' analog, space-music, anything (bar decent FM, but then the classic FMs are digital, and if I want digital I have Zebra and Rhino)... If you want an analog without the usual limitations it's really stunningly priced. It cured my gear-lust almost completely (part of me wants a modular, but I can resist because it's just silly with an andy in the house).

First time you realise that, despite it needing to warm up, it's pretty much self-managing, you'll realise why it's worth buying something slightly more 'modern' in design. I've had massive problems saving patches to PC, but that's a minor niggle for something I never do.

If you want further convincing, read the manual and get an idea of how much you can do with it... or hell, just look at a picture of the front panel. It's there to see.

And if your wife objects, tell her it's the last analog synth you'll need to buy. That's what I did, and so far it's been true.
