Full size picture.

I'm pretty exhausted at the moment, so I'm going to collapse instead of giving you the big marketing blurb this release deserves. (Coming, just later. ;) ) But suffice to say, while this is a minor update (meaning no new voice features), this minor update is MAJOR!

The big news is new SSE2 optimizations have reduced CPU usage by as much as 25% on some processors!

The other big news is Receptor compatibility. There's a thread for that on the Receptor board: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=219932

And with news like this, I want you to be able to try it again so... EVALUATION RESET! Try her again, your first week is FREE and FULLY FUNCTIONAL! (This is our 4th evaluation reset by the way, so it's actually been a month of free Poly-Ana evaluation if you've been following along.)

http://www.admiralquality.com/products/Poly-Ana/

(There's also a .zip file download option now for those of you who are allergic to .exe installers, while still somehow trusting the .dlls it contains. )

Here's the changes since 1.11:

1.13 - 2008-07-03 Poly-Ana 1.13

Restored the upper cutoff limit on the filters, prevents a sudden jump in volume at higher cutoff frequencies (well above Nyquist). This will fix any programs that may have sounded different in version 1.12.
Fixed crash problem when closing editor in certain poorly behaved hosts.

1.12 - 2008-06-27 Poly-Ana 1.12

- Yet another evaluation reset!
- Receptor compatible.
- New SSE2 optimizations have reduced CPU usage to as little as 75% of version 1.00 on some platforms.
- Fixed bug in polyphonic mode where stolen voices weren't retriggering.
- Fixed some stability bugs in the editor.
- Added program name edit field, program select dropdown menu (click the program number), and program increment/decrement buttons to top of editor. Authorization controls have moved above keyboard and the "Auth" button has been removed. Simply hit "enter" or select any other control to confirm your key entry.
- Removed limit from high end of filter cutoff range. This allows the HPF mode to completely cut all sound now, rather than always letting some highs pass through as before.
- Voices in release stage now show in voice display.
- Changed behavior: Incoming MIDI no longer turned to automation events. Didn't prove useful as a feature and can cause conflicts in some cases.
- Fixed bug when handling "duplicate timestamped" MIDI events of the same type. In this case the last received duplicate event will be used now. Fixes pitch bend and modulation errors from some host/controller combinations.
- Fixed a long standing bug relating to oscillator sync that was causing Poly-Ana to get "sick" under certain, rare conditions. (Hosts that make random patches were very good at casing this.) Poly-Ana should no longer have "poison patches".
- Sustain pedal behavior problem in some hosts fixed.
- Fixed another oscillator sync related bug where sync was internally turned off after bypassing/resuming even though editor panel still showed the correct setting.
- Changed the method Poly-Ana uses to find its .dll location, may help users who were having trouble loading the custom background Poly-AnaBG.png

Not bad for a "minor" release! ;) Hope you like her...

Toot toot!

I will try 'er out again.

Really like the sound; the CPU usage is/was a killer for me, though. Maybe this update will kick it down into the feasible range for me.

Oh, hey: Do you know anyone who does PolyAna patch requests?

If it's just one or two patches, ME! And there's some other great Poly-Ana patch makers here on KVR (you'll see some banks from them included with the product), but I'll let them volunteer their services themselves.

Thanks for the update AQ ... grabbing it now :D

It's precisely 1 patch I'm after: The bass from Boards of Canada's "RoyGBiv".

If you can get that to a very close degree, I will buy PolyAna immediately.

(I'll have to be the judge of if it's close enough, yadda yadda yadda. But seriously AQ, that is like the "litmus test" of analog quality for me as of late.)

:)

I might give it a try, don't want to promise anything though. What kind of sound are you looking for?

That is a damn good sound. I would purchase any synth that could make that sound as long as it was A) less than $250, B) Available for mac, and C) Sounded good and worked right on my computer (durrr)

Yeah, it's to me like the distilled essence of what makes analog "analog".

I've tried so many times to get it in SW that it's almost embarrassing. :hihi:

To be fair, it sounds like part of that is post processing... Tape saturation/flutter perhaps.

Also, my own request (although don't be too rushed about it, since I can't buy until there's a mac version anyway...)

I think it would be a kickass show off patch if you made an example of poly ana doing the BoC "Kaini industries" sound.

I've heard someone get really, really close to the RoyGBiv bass using an SH-101 that he claimed he recorded directly into the soundcard using Cubase, with a little reverb (Cubase plug?).

Kaini would be another great example patch, agreed 105.2%.

Awesome update AQ!

BTW, if you want to check out a picture of my new Wurlitzer and read a bit about it, click the link in my sig.

EDIT: Also, I may just PM you to chew your ear off about adjusting the action on one of these things (if you don't mind of course). Apparently the 112 and 120 are very similar.

Join me in the Wurly club thread FBET!

:D

So, you want that big monophonic bass sound JerGoertz? You realize these guys record with lots of effects and amps and other distorty things that are helping make this sound bigger than big, right?

But, yeah, no problem... I'll get back to you in a while... making dinner, then a big mono-bass patch. :hihi:

(There's already one patch that's an attempt at cloning a sound I used to get from an SH-101. "Tune-Ahs Girlfriend". Check it out.)

Sweet, dude! Definitely looking forward to want you come up with. Like I said, I heard an example that someone claims to have made with an SH-101 direct into the computer + a little 'verb.

Bear in mind, the RoyGBiv bass ain't just no ordinary big mono bass sound, although it does fit that description. There's something very special about it, IMO. Take a listen to the track and see what you think.
