Dear KVR Members,

We are happy to announce the release of Blue Cat's Protector, a stereo brickwall limiter plugin in DirectX and VST formats for Windows. This new plugin offers very few controls and yet provides a large palette of sounds: from very transparent limiting to hard digital clipping or soft analogue saturation, it can be used as a master limiter, loudness maximizer or distortion unit.

The plugin is available alone or within the Blue Cat's Master Pack plugins bundle. A demo version is available for download on www.bluecataudio.com, and the plugin can be purchased at a special introduction price.

Blue Cat's Protector main features:
- 0 dB stereo brickwall peak limiter and waveshaper.
- Continuous control of the dynamics response from transparent limiting to colorful distortion.
- Stereo link control.
- Large audio levels and gain reduction meters for optimal monitoring.
- Side chaining capability: a unique way to perform side chain compression and much more.
- Plugin window transparency management.
- Smooth Bypass: activate/deactivate the plugin with absolutely no noise.
- Undo/Redo.
- Import/Export presets and share them between the directX and VST versions.
- Zero latency.
- Blue Cat Audio Standards:
-- Native DSP code for optimal performance.
-- Skinnable user interface.
-- DirectX and VST plug-in formats support.
-- Smooth Update: silent (zipper-free) parameters update.
-- Full automation support (all parameters can be automated, with smooth and continuous update)
-- No CPU load on idle: when the plugin is fed with silence, the processing smoothly shuts down, to optimize the CPU usage of your Digital Audio Workstation.
-- Real time MIDI control with advanced settings (MIDI channel and CC numbers, with complete response curve control) and MIDI learn.
-- Any sample rate supported.

Pricing (special introduction price - limited time offer):
- Blue Cat's Protector: 49.56 EUR (instead of 59 EUR) or $74.76 (instead of $89).

Wow. I've been a little out of the loop with BlueCat stuff lately, but this limiter is a great addition to the BlueCat lineup! I was just trying this now, and I daresay this is one of the most transparent limiters I've tried to date! Great work, Blue Cat!! Oh, you just might have a sale here, you sneaky snake...

Thanks. The plugin can also be very colorful if you decrease the release time a lot, especially with a large input gain.

Hee hee. I noticed that...I wonder what that sounds like on drums? :hihi:

It actually sounds quite good on drums. You can get very distorded sounds or make your drums pump a lot. If you start chaining the Blue Cat's Protector instances then be prepared for VERY loud stuff :).

i tried out the demo this morning and after just a few minutes i went back and bought it!

the Blue Cat stuff is always quality, and the prices are more than reasonable - especially with the discount for being a previous (regular) customer! :tu:

Thanks sinkmusic. As far as I can remember you were one of the many persons who requested such a limiter after Blue Cat's Dynamics was released. I hope Blue Cat's Protector meets your expectations!

Yes.
Could you tell us a bit more about it : what is similar from Dynamics ? What is different ?
Is there anything special about it ?
THanks !

Ye sure. The simple brickwall limiter included in the Blue Cat's Dynamics plugin was used as a starting point. It was mainly tweaked to offer more versatility for a single plugin. The response is different so that it can be both more transparent (with higher release times) and more aggressive with very short release (<10ms). It also includes a stereo link control and detailed monitoring on what's going on.
