Roel,

When v2.0 will be released and on sale, will we be able to buy the lastest 1.x version too, if we want to be able to have the sound of 1.x for different sounding projects ?

Post

Hi,

v2.0 will be released when it's done, which I expect will be some time this year. I can't be more specific about it. Current plans are to include TruePianos v1.x as a bonus for new customers. Not purely as an extra but since current customers should be able to keep using their old modules and since TruePianos v2.0 is considered a new product which is not backwards compatible it's the logical thing to do. Current customers will either get v2.0 for free depending on when they bought it or for a fair fee for getting an additional year of free updates.

Originally we planned to release TruePianos v2.0 this summer but we ran into problems implementing some things we wanted to do, thus additional (perhaps final) v1.x update which will be released soon.

Hi Roel, I'm satisfied with the sound of TruePianos right now, except for one thing: it does not sound very good on mono. The phasing you have when you collapse it into mono is not pleaseant to my ears. I hope you'll improve the mono compatibility in the next release. I do music for television and a lot of people here still listen to the TV in mono.
THanks in advance

Hi,

Phasing if it happens is a result due to the nature of how TruePianos v1.x produces it's sound. TruePianos v1.x is a hybrid between several technologies including that of traditional samplers. As a result the phasing when it happens is the result of the mic setup when we recorded the original piano samples which were used as reference for the sound that TruePianos produces. We've tried several mic setups while recording pianos and eventually we ended up with an A/B type setup most of the time. We tried more mono compatible setups but we didn't like the result. As a result some phasing can happen on some modules when collapsing the sound to mono (as is the case with traditional piano libraries often).

Mono compatibility varies per module and there is not much we can do about it. For e.g. live performances where mono sound is required it usually works quite well to use just one of the output channels if collapsing the sound to mono results in phasing, though I can imagine that this is not a perfect solution for you.

The upcoming TruePianos v1.4 won't solve this and it's unlikely that TruePianos v2.0 will be perfectly mono compatible.

Thanks for the replies Roel.

Thank you Roel, for taking time out to comment in this thread. I appreciate your efforts, and this makes me even more content with my purchase.
If version 2 is going to add anything other than cpu hunger, I will be upgrading without a doubt :)
A truly outstanding instrument.

Since it has leaked out that reverb will be in the new TruePianos update I thought I'd post a tune I wrote using a recent Truepianos Beta.

Its a dreamy piece, very much on the gentler side, but it does test the dynamics of the piano during certain buildups. It also showcases the new in-engine reverb at high settings.

Reflekshun - Inside a Heart

Thankfully even with the reverb turned on with its most extreme settings, CPU usage is the same as before. With more 'standard' reverb settings the CPU usage is actually lower.

To those who are interested, I'm using the current beta sapphire module on this track and no further processing was used on the piano save for a send reverb during the end fadeout.

Once again, the expressiveness of this VSTi won me over and was a large part of the inspiration behind this piece!

hi project

i made better monocompatibility by using "MB spatty"...should be in the
database here.
lower the side signal about 30 percent .
this will result in a much better monosignal(truepianos diamond)

This is fantastic news.... I'm really looking forward to the next release.

My only other request would be for an inbuilt EQ, as just about all the models seem to require a smidgen of lowend boost (imho).

btw - can current owners get hold of the beta? - I would love to take part in the testing :)

Hi,

It's called a beta release to avoid that normal customers become guinea pigs. When a beta version is released there are often several updates each week fixing new bugs, improving imperfections etc. Also behavior/character of modules can change which is not something you want when you just finished a serious track with a certain beta.

We have quite a decent test-team at the moment and we're not looking for new testers at the moment I fear.

We actually discussed build-in EQ internally but build-in EQ won't happen for TruePianos v1.x as that would require redesigning the GUI too much. There simply is no space left for extra additions in the current GUI without making things bulky.

We indeed were able to make a performance improvement which depending on the module and CPU used can go up to 20-30% on already publicly released modules. The new Amber module uses about the same as previous modules did with the v1.0.2 engine though as it's inner workings are 'slightly more complex'. Reverb causes an additional <1%-8% CPU load depending on things like 'room size' and the CPU that's used so it's quite CPU efficient.

I think the MP3 Reflekshun just posted indeed gives a nice demonstration of the build-in reverb at slightly overkill settings ;-)

whoa, very spherical and nice playing reflekshun, truly reflekting ur name :) how should i work with such dreaming background music..;-)
this was the "updated" sapphire you said, not amber?

Post

Hi,

From what I hear this indeed is Sapphire yes. Amber has a cleaner character if one could call it that.

All previously released modules have been updated for the v1.4 release, but meanly for reverb logic and some other things related to the v1.4 engine, so those changes are minor and won't be easily noticed unless one knows what to look for. Most of the result what you hear here is the reverb functionality that has been added.

Will there be controllable pedal noise in 1.4?

Post

Hi,

No.. We we couldn't agree on a proper way to implement pedal sounds within the v1.x engine and we received some requests to disable it. On a simple pedal which only sends 0/1 values it felt we made the wrong decision by adding pedal sounds to the original Sapphire module using the current implementation. While some people have continues pedals this isn't the case for the majority.

We'll introduce an additional Sapphire module with v1.4. One with and one without pedal sounds.

It was the cleanest solution without having to add controls to the GUI for only one (or part of the) module(s) having pedal sounds included with them. So for the sake of consistency an additional module was added.

Thanks for the kind words Oxytoxine! Good to hear it may have hindered your work :p I can confirm that this is the Sapphire module, not amber..
