it seems not to show the parameters to assign to midi control in ableton live,
does that mean that its impossible to assign control to the filter etc from my midi controller? (i did notice that in some patches the filter is mapped to the mod-wheel, tho the filter 'reading' does not change on the vst gui as you move the wheel, tho the sound does) Midi learn would be awesome, is it a big task to implement? apart from these minor aspects, a lovely synth.. thanks very much.. is there still a commercial version coming?

Code: Select all
- All MIDI controllers are available as modulation sources.
- Freely assignable modulator for the final volume.
- 3 Matrices (MAT1, MAT2, MAT3) as new modulation sources
which are the sum of up to 3 other modulators (M1, M2, M3).
The output amplitude of a matrix can be modulated by another
modulator (AMP).
- The range of the filter modulation amount has been doubled
compared to SQ80/ESQ1 (-127..+127 instead of -63..+63).
The range -63..+63 matches with the SQ80/ESQ1.
- The oscillator pitch parameters SEMI and FINE can have
negative values.
- The panning range is -63..+63 instead of 0..15.
The range of the panning modulation amount has been doubled
compared to SQ80/ESQ1 (-127..+127 instead of -63..+63).
The range -63..+63 matches with the SQ80/ESQ1.
- SYNC and AM can be used together.
- The page DCA4 contains the additional parameter SAT = amount
of saturation (distortion).
The purpose of the saturator is to imitate the distortion that
occurs in the SQ80/ESQ1's analog circuits when setting the oscillator
volumes to high values. The saturation is applied after the filter.
- The following midi controllers are always recognized:
7 (07 hex) : Master volume
10 (0A hex) : Panning (relative, 64=neutral)
11 (0B hex) : Expression (relative volume increase,
0=neutral)*
64 (40 hex) : Hold/Sustain pedal (values>0 = hold notes)**
74 (4A hex) : Brightness (relative filter frequency,
64=neutral)*
* May have little or no effect depending on the
corresponding parameter settings and modulation.
** Has no effect if the sustain stage of the envelopes
is disabled (CYC=ON on the MODE page).- Let It Whip -

Couldn't resist - did another bank of 64 sounds again last night.
Get it here:
http://www.kvraudio.com/banks.php?s=lis ... order=date
I didn't realise there were so many soundbanks available
in the 'SQ8L Banks' download. Wow.
One slight problem though:
Roughly half of the sounds only come out of one side
of the stereo field, and very often distorted.
Most of the banks I have checked are not working properly
and if you want to check out what I mean, try tomg's
first soundbank in the collection. (some lovely bass sounds
there tomg, btw).
I have tested this in energyXT2 and Ableton 6.
Exactly same problem. Weird.
This problem does NOT occur at all with the included Factory
sounds, or obviously my new soundbanks which were made with
the latest version...
I'll go home and test in the previous version to see if this
still happens.
Oh and Sigi, whilst we are about it, I have a couple of very trivial
bug reports for you (at least I think they are bugs - they may be
undocumented features
) Should I post here, or is there somewhere
else to send them to?
They in no way effect the use of this program which has been absolutely
flawless - about 20 hours solid testing so far - just file handling,
that's all.
Anyway, go check out my new sounds - I even surprised myself this time!
And it's not fair to say this synth has an 80's sound - that is slander
Check out my 'Mod Wheely' presets and fiddle about - there is no way that
is 80's - unless you were on the cutting edge of culture and tucked away
in some grimy Acid House get-together ':o'':x'''

Any word on if a Mac Audio unit of the SQ8L will be coming out??

I'm sure the main thing that would encourage Sigi to go cross-platform earlier than he planned would be financial encouragement from current users. If you plan on contributing to his PayPal donation box but could ALSO use a Mac version, be sure and add that as a note in the comments box.

ouch... the Ensoniq purists would say it's open to debate...Pepsito wrote:This thing is great but needs a user-friendly gui and not the original one...

But don't most of you think the new GUI is great? The current GUI is the part I thought he would save for the for-pay version, but its free. its a good guess that any Mac version would have a similar GUI.

I was an EPS user for many years, so the menu-keys-and-LED display "works" for me. Once I get my head around the synth architecture, I'm sure tweaking will be smooth sailing.
Also, this just sounds awesome.

I haven't had any problems navigating it. I love it.maxmace wrote: But don't most of you think the new GUI is great? The current GUI is the part I thought he would save for the for-pay version, but its free. its a good guess that any Mac version would have a similar GUI.

The problem I have (and it may be that I just don't understand it well enough) is that when I want to tweak a preset it is very hard to find the parameters that I want.
Which envelope is controlling the attack, or sustain, or whatever?
I have to try all of the envelopes and try all of the dials until I stumble upon it.
No other synth presents this problem. At least none that I have used.
I like this synth very much, but it is difficult to work with.

I love the new GUI, very easy to navigate. Great improvement over those past.
