I am just learning how to program and was wondering why noone has back engineered the vst to rtas adapter in order to make a rtas to vst adpater. If someone has already done this on the dl, please send me a pm.

Because it is illegal?
Also I have a strong feeling the Digidesign hardware is somehow involved always with RTAS plugins too(*) (not only with Digidesign's TDM plugins) which might complicate reverse engineering a lot...At the least, it is very likely the RTAS plugins rely heavily on code in Pro Tools itself, again making reverse engineering a massive undertaking with very little rewards...
Digidesign and their proprietary systems are a dead-end.
I'd suggest you either buy some Pro Tools version to get access to RTAS/Audiosuite plugins or find alternatives to the plugins...
(*) Mainly to make the reverse engineering of the RTAS spec non-feasible, not for the actual processing of the audio.

Digidesign is losing out on market-share because of their elitist tactics.
Their loss, not mine.
RTAS is overrated and too expensive anyways.

If you reverse engineer the FXpansion vst-rtas adapter, then you would be breaking the EULA for that product. I suspect that FXpansion could sue you, not Digi.lmnop wrote:If I make a working version and give it to a friend would that be breaking any laws?
On the other hand, if you use the Digi SDK to engineer rtas-vst, you would be breaking that EULA and Digi could sue you.
If you somehow miraculously engineer rtas-vst without either of those, then you would be in the clear. But since Digi owns the rtas technology, I doubt that it can be done without some infringement.
You would be breaking the law by making it. Giving or selling is the part that's NOT against the law
In any case, pm me when you have it working
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

When you've actually learned a bit about programming, you'll be able to work out the answer to that yourself.lmnop wrote:I am just learning how to program and was wondering why noone has back engineered the vst to rtas adapter in order to make a rtas to vst adpater.

And if you really want expensive, go TDM. Companies that have native and TDM versions of a plugin, usually charge twice as much for the TDM version.siriusbliss wrote:Digidesign is losing out on market-share because of their elitist tactics.

It seems there is still the FXpansion wrapper available:
https://www.fxpansion.com/products/vst-rtas-adapter/
And then you would need an old version of Sylenth…
This thread talks about it:
viewtopic.php?t=231998
I think an actual version of ProTools would still load the old session and Sylenth has a AAX version…
The original question was the other way round though. But I don’t know of any RTAS only plugin that would be worth to wrap…

You think something that only properly supports VST2.3 and Windows XP is 'available'? No, that's a legacy product; if you'd looked properly you'd see there's no option to purchase it.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 5:31 am It seems there is still the FXpansion wrapper available:
Its not available, in fact it hasnt been available for at least a decade.

I ended up getting an installer and sure enough it was fxpansion. My sessions loaded up perfectly.
Now the only issue I’m having is with VSL Vienna ensemble Pro 5. For some reason my usb elicenser is not being seen by my computer. I emailed VSL, they sent me a demo of 7 even though I told them that the version I had was version 5. The session doesn’t recall with 7. They can’t RMA because they don’t use syncrosoft anymore and steinberg can’t help me. My main instrument was stupidly served with VEPro5. Any ideas are welcomed.
I spent 279$ on a software. I’m still on the same computer… but I can no longer use it. This doesn’t make ethical sense
