Any news on Adobe Audition 4?

I can't seem to get it to work. I tried bringing up the file info dialog using both the menu and hotkeys as well. There needs to be a hotkey for making the current marker a loop point.

In the case of Audition, I don't really see how Adobe killed Cool Edit.

They created a new product called Audition when they could easily have retained the Cool Edit name. Why else would they do this except to screw over Cool Edit customers? The product had an excellent reputation [used in many TV/video post-production houses] and a proven track-record but they decided to flush that down the toilet so as to screw more money from it's user-base.

It may use similar tools, but despite you not being familiar with them, they ARE helpful. It's not like they just threw it in there and it's not useful or that it somehow ruins anything. It makes the program BETTER, and a lot of people love the tools.

I'm not talking about the new tools that have arrived in the several years they have owned the code, just how they went about creating Audition from Cool Edit. One of the best things about CE was how uncluttered it was but Auditionv1 had all these annoying Adobe palettes built-into it which took a lot away from the prominence of the waveform display. Once they started to add new stuff, that became less of an issue but at first it was what put me off [that and the fact that CE2k did everything I needed anyway].

You do know that you can hide or show whatever you want, dock things wherever you want, resize things however you want, etc, right? You can have it look almost exactly like those pictures if you want.

And again, my comments had nothing to do with screwing over customers. That may be true. I am only speaking of features and the product itself evolving. I work in radio and we use Audition on most computers with Cool Edit sticking around on a couple because a few people here still are used to that(they don't realize that Audition IS Cool Edit, it seems).

Yeah, it's a lot different now. You can dock ANYTHING, and make any docked part into a tabbed section with multiple things docked in the same place. You can resize things and put them on any side of the window. Plus, you can choose which buttons are visible and customize those to your liking.

So yeah, just so you are aware(not that it matters at this point to you, but just in case), you can customize the interface quite a bit.

Well firstly, Adobe bought the development team - until a few months ago the original syntrillium guy was in charge of all Audition development. Just recently he was promoted within Adobe to a bigger role, and the other guys that he worked with for many years are now in charge. So to say that Adobe "screwed over" the programme or its developers is nonsense. Also the fact they changed the name is hardly significant here - Audition 1 was the identical to CE2k IIRC, and it was from version 1.5 that they started to really add features. ONly in version 2 did they change the interface and introduce the (very useful) docking system.

Secondly, whenever new features are added to any programme, those who liked it previously for its leanness might think it has become bloated. In the case of Audition, Adobe/the original developers have added a simply huge amount of features, most of which are imho extreemly useful and have massively grown the programme. But yes, some might see this as bloat, and prefer a lighter programme. In recognition of this Adobe brought out SoundBooth as a lighter programme, but of course if you like the original Cool Edit and want to still use that, feel free

BONES you can make any version of AA LOOK and FUNCTION exactly like CEP 2000 (well I think after 1.5 it got chrome ).





They look practically the same!

I personally though CEP2000 was an ABOMINATION compared to the older versions and actually when Adobe 1st released 1.0 I was VERY HAPPY with it as it brough it back to its 1.2/1.0 roots.

The scanning and rescanning of plugins at startup in 2000 had me wondering wtf Syntrillium was thinking. I really was not surprised that they lost a huge chunk of customers and sold out to Adobe after that god awful last release they did.

BTW CEP did not even have a any bussing ability so getting a tight mixdown was trial and error! Adobe added that and it made mixing eqing and compressing multiple tracks a much easier task!

Btw, are there any advantages in mixing in Adobe Audition (3) compared to Cubase SL3 (similiar to SX3)?

I'm planning buying AA3, but I thought I'll probably just use it as a single wave editor. But maybe there are some goodies in the multitrack compared to Cubase?

Well I've always used the multitrack as a notepad for recording new ideas quickly. But sometimes I do prefer to do things in CEP multitrack than in other DAW programs because it's more immediate. I've recorded an entire album in CEP and it was really a pleasure (you can ear some previews here: http://maxb.altervista.org/music.html - the album is Alaya and 99% of the effects I've used are those of CEP).

At the radio station, we use the multi-track for all production. It's very quick and easy to throw as many audio files in as you want, move them around quickly, and with one button mix them down to a single file which automatically opens in the single wave edit view(multi-track still stays put, so you can always change things). Just quick and easy, and it disappears and gets itself out of the way so you can use the waveform editing tools. It's actually quite full featured now, and you may want to use it. But even if you don't, it's there and highly useful for some quick mixdowns.

Right. For example you can use it for sample editing: layering sounds, apply effects on one sound, pan, etc and when you are ready you do the mixdown. All very quickly.

The thing is, some people will say, "what's so great about that? I can do that in any host".

But the point of it is that it's just so quick and then you can completely focus on the editing view with the click of a button and edit your mixed file. Plus, it's all linked. Got a marker region in the edit view you want to add to multi-track? One button and it's done. Things like that are easy because of how closely they are linked.
