When you can buy two for a discount?!?!?

1972 suitcase

1981 stage 88

purchsed both of these for less than 1 usually goes for on ebay :hyper:

condition wise, both are in pretty good shape. The suitcase has had an amp rebuild and speaker reconing, but the harp isnt screwed down, so soft notes just kinda die. (will fix tomorrow) The stage 88, while missing legs and sustain pedal, plays like a champ. In fact I dunno which I want to keep... :help: both?

Post

both for sure
and the legless one could always go on top of the other/an organ (tho sustain is kind of hard to go without, and if it's on something, the mechnics of the pedal would be impossible to use (IIRC from a wurly I had once, it was really a long metal plate from the pedal to the internals of the piano)

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

It makes me think about music differently... :hihi:

Its not every day you find 2 rhodes. In fact, this is the first day I have ever found two rhodes in one place...

My Stage 73 was the last year they made 'em, however, I cannot remember what year that was...sometime in the 80's. Unfortunately, I lent it to a family member and never saw it, again. IMO, you'll have less problems with the newer one, particularly if the '72 has been really used a lot on the road, if ya know what I mean?
I've got nothing to sell...am I on the right site?

Post

I used to have a '76 stage 73. It was the loosest keybed I have ever played, this '72 feels better than that, but the stage 88 is better still. Im leaning toward the stage- passive is nice and reliable, and neither piano is getting younger.

The Suitcase stereo tremolo though  its mesmerizing. I find myself playing one note over and over and being in a trance as it pans back and forth...

I would hold onto both personally, but I'm probably a bit of an electric piano nut. I just love the sound of the damn things.

Post

I guess I could use the "Im saving them from the landfill" line on my wife to see if she buys it... :hihi:

I am really more shocked that she said "shit yeah" when I told her I could get both...

Shes a keeper...

Dammit. I've been looking for an affordable Rhodes ("an" read just ONE Rhodes)for freaking ever and you got two. Dammit. That's it, life is officially not fair....

Of all the instruments in Seattle Rhodes seem to be the most elusive. I have seen a couple of Wurlys on Craigslist recently but I don't care for the Wurly sound nearly as much.
