If you haven't already heard, Tascam has ceased development on the revolutionary software that made most of what sampling is today possible. My opinion, of course, on that latter bit.
Anyway GigaStudio is no longer being developed and support will cease as of the end of this year.

Pity, they pushed the "Keyswitch" scene right from the start, had a very CPU light sampler which was considered the most powerful and most easiest to setup (multirig) standalone solution BEFORE Kontakt 2.
Then again, it was dissapointing that the GVI engine was so buggy (at least for some of my colleagues, since I use Halion and Kontakt mostly, I can't relate) and TASCAM never really did anything against it.
Up until today, I still can't decide which sampleset to go for... Kontakt ready ones, or GIG3 ones. Sadly I mostly only go for Kontakt ones - cheaper and way more possibilties in terms of scripting. I guess this was the end for the GIGA concept.

Didn't they just release a new version?

Yes, they did. I thought the GVI concept was going to be used more. Maybe they just decided to go a different direction. I'm a Kontakt user, but it's still sad to see GIGA go.
Just for the sake of accuracy, is there a link to this news? That way nobody can say that it's just made up if it's not?

That's the closest thing to an official announcement I can find. It appears its just the developers that have been informed officially at this point.

This pretty well says it all. Here's a link to Tascams legacy software product page.
