other tascam oddities (imo)

doesn't that seem a bit low priced for a feature packs fw interface?

This is indeed a sad day for gigastudio users. Gigastudio is a classic - it opened up computers to be used as samplers.

Now, with a sampler like kontakt that doesn't require a dongle, has time stretching, etc., is supported by a gazillion developers and is available on both mac and PC, the demise of gigastudio should not come as a suprise.

I'm building a new computer and was looking towards getting a GSIF soundcard for gigastudio 4. Now I'll have to rethink about that...

FWIW, gigastudio could stomp on kontakt in terms of polyphony/performance.

No. I was not really that good.

So is this a good time to get Gigapulse cheap? Is it any good and what copy protection does it use?

Don't bother, no 64bit version (the copy protection wont run), and challenge response activation, so it has a rather bleak future imo. Odds are I'll be buying Pristine Space, and sampling all the IR's packaged with GigaPulse (not looking foreword to that).
