That's funny, I recall discussing the topic of discontinued products earlier, and I'm sure Tascam's going to give all existing customers a permanent unlock code!

I see you removed all the details in the original post? Oh well, when I read this a few minutes ago, it was a few paragraphs long. 
I am still waiting for the update they promised in the Gigapulse VST manual, and the 64bit patch they spoke of on the forum, not looking so good now, although it wasn't really looking like they were coming before either.

Wasn't sure if it was okay to post but since I could join, I suppose it is.
Sorry. I wasn't sure - and there seems to be no NDA stuff on there. For me its about hooking up with other developers and maybe some free samples (some are already up woot woot.

Anyway the post said that yesterday I sent in a letter that a friend (developer) emailed me as I was really waiting for the GIGA for MAC version to KVR news and they still haven't reported on it.
The real kicker? A few say the GIGA 4 for MAC IS WORKING but it will not see the light of day under the TASCAM brand. I think from what I've read is that they don't have the $$$$ to compete with all the instruments that have built in samplers.

But I read that they are revamping the board, as they had to take down NDA tascam stuff and would imagine that it might go open to the public. For example, the main website is www.filmtv.biz and there is no forum listed, yet if you type in http://www.filmtv.biz/default.html so there seems to be all sorts of hidden stuff but the forum that I used to see there was a different forum and some of the posts didn't show up unless you were a member?
So, far, I joined and have access so I don't know if that will change or not but just letting some know.
In the forum that I used to visit it went from numerous users to just a few (porting) and if you look at the FTP section, it used to be loaded with shared samples, samples that the creators shared with each other. Word. But there seems to be one up already from the developer of Cinematix I and II.
Anyway, I think its sad for Giga Studio and am surprised its not big news. Also hear N.I. is hurting too. Wondering what is going on these days with all the sample companies? For me, I always thought Giga was cool but took so long to get to the next version and Giga being used by the pros always had macs and that should have been a priority YEARS and YEARS ago.
Am reading in some other forums, APPLE may pick it up!

I remember when I would visit the forum and see that people were posting but everything was invisible.
Can only assume that something might be going down (which is good for us) also heard a rumor Apple might buy it.

This is really sad news. I was planning on getting a MAC version of GIGA, but after
all the delays my interest in it diminished.
It seems like all the major developers decided to code their own players.
I myself acquired VSL Special Edition PLUS, and I must say that their instruments
are pleasure to work with. You can set up the instrument quickly to respond to
controls that you want. And of course it sounds great!!!
So it looks like Native Instruments Kontakt platform will be the only viable cross
platform alternative for serious sampling.

You never know, this might turn out for the better if someone else picks it up. If I recall correctly, Tascam picked it up from someone else after version 1 was released, correct me if I'm wrong.

I just looked at Tascam's site and Giga/GVI are not listed as "products".

IMHO, GVI came too late (and was reportedly buggy0. If Giga had come out with a plugin instrument sooner they might have managed, but a lot of Giga vendors switched to or added support for Kontakt.
I can understand why a vendor would use an integrated player rather than a generic sampler like Kontakt or Giga - you ensure compatibility, can program specifically for the player, and you don't have to say "Oh, you also need this $200 piece of software, as well as our $100 sample set".

Oh, and the new Garritan ARIA player should do well. It can apparently have custom interfaces, scripting, synthesis, and more. I don't know if they have opened it up for third parties yet, but I believe they are going to. Plus, the player loads SFZ files in addition to the sounds that come with it. Currently, it's only available as the Steinway piano and with Finale 2009. And both can load SFZ files. It's lightweight so far for me(Finale 2009 version), comes in about every format, and has a very light copy protection.
Maybe it's the next good player? It doesn't have mapping capabilities yet, and may never have them. But as a player it's superb.

There was a deal a while back with Sonivox and Giga
where you could buy the sonivox stuff in giga format and get
giga studio 4 for free...
