runagate - MIRABAlism 2006 mp3

Our friend drumity asked me to contribute a track to his "set paintings to music" poject this morning. In the case of my favorite of his paintings it was easy to imagine the sounds, though not quick to construct them! I am happy with the results, however brief it is at just over one minute. I hadn't noticed his post about this somehow and I'm glad he asked me to join in the fun.

great music

but, I hope you didn't rack your giant brain too hard to come up with that GM clarinet tone.

Wow runagate !

The tune is just as weird as I expected and I like it very much ;-)
I don't mind if you will do more tunes and I don't mind as well if they are less brief :D

You wrote your lines like a promotion for my project with all informations one can wish, even the vst chains ... absolutely great :D

I am very excited about the following tunes :)

Thank you my friend !!!

Clarinet? It's a physically modeled reed with 7 automated parameters so, yeah, I actually spent quite a time sequencing the midi CC#s :(

Well, when it comes to music at least I'm a far cry fron lazy :)
Or when it comes to crediting others, unless I call them "archie" mistakenly.

I guess I saw your thread topic title before but never noticed that it was in the Cafe because of the way I've got refresh customized. I just assumed it was a topidc about songs written with paintings as inspiration and never really thought about it, being a completely non-visual thinker.

I like to see weird, beautiful things I just don't imagine them or make them myself ;)

Which is interesting as most of the way I approach music is "visual" to visual thinkers but to me it really is a fair representation of how I imagine things, which is 3D auditorily.

It sounds like a cheaply recorded clarinet through a sears silvertone. In a good room. BUT! good performance, on that thing. Pain in the ass getting that to happen isn't it.

Great piece, and the sound actually sits well in the track, I'm having you on out of revenge. Bobby.

Nice 'n' free. I like the sound selection as it seems well off the wall. Does it matter to you that I'm sitting in a field as I listen and type this, cause it seems to work well?

Bobby? Oh, I recall accusing you of using GM sounds! A tiny cavil, being that your songs are wicked prog monsters! Ah, to piss away talent! It's my religion.

You made me realize that this miniature track has the odd distinction of being the very first one I played entirely live on my keyboard (except, obviously, that it's multitracked and there's a damned lot of automation going on under the hood, I didn't use knobs or anything for that...)

Free... too bad it takes 6 hours to record something so brief. The melody and whatnot just sprang to mind, but getting it on tape, so to speak... ugh. That's why there's so many familiar-to-me VSTs in use here, had to go to ones I know to get sounds instead of arsing around experimenting. :(

Yes, it matters to me that you're in a field! How cool. Weird music should be lustened like people other than me watch TV. I talk to TV and carry on at movies shamefully. A field, so appropriate... especially given that drumity's painting looks to me like a romographic hologram of a woman fondly remembering dreams wherein she bedded ouroborean serpent phalli, a peacock angel kitten and various other detritus of the collective unconscious. Don't tell him I said so, though. Which, of course, translates to jazz woodwinds melting in my mind... ? Apparently so.

It's well-mixed and brief as I am more respectful of others' projects than my own mazdo turba.

NO, you said that my bass sound in HERESY (which sounds good to me, and fits in the tracks.) was something Bobby Brown wouldn't even use.

Which IS funny as hell!

Hey there people, I'm Bobby Brown
They say I've the lamest bass in town
My car ain't fast, my fingers slimy
I tell all you punks you can kiss my hiney...

Whereas you have a world to post about how eg., a cheesy clarinet tone was realized, I say, why not GM in such a case? Personally I'm WAY pickier in an orch. every time out than that, but this here, ain't that! The whole quality of that effect is down to getting the timing and velocity right, it isn't much of a tone... Does everything have to be complicated to be valid at your famous school?

Dressing down and acting the fool.

yours, Jan.

PS, I really like it when you're musical rather than strictly from engineering school with the thing.
Do a cost versus benefits analysis someday per results. You've come a long long way of late though. Every time out gets better. So you must be doing something right.

Just stop talking! you had me at:
M.C. Bobby Brown wrote:Everybody wants to know what's going down
Not with the James, not the Jim, but the Bobby Brown
Yo, I'm chillin' much hard as you all know 'cause Bobby Brown
was good to-good to-good to go solo
Been on the mic for a long, long time
I guarantee to bust a stupid rhyme
Now that I'm on the mic and I'm rocking real fresh
Everybody out there, don't talk less about me
Because I'm rocking it steady
And when I'm on the mic don't you dare call me Freddy 'cause I'm ready
to really get paid, and if anybody steps in my way they get slain
My name is Brown, that's what they call me
Yes, I drive a 560 SCC, and when I'm on the mic you gotta see me
Drivin' down the block 'cause I'm black and a lot
and when a sucker MC's trying to track my spot when I'm...
rockin' on the microphone, people gotta gotta gotta gotta leave me alone
'Cause I really don't care, really don't give a damn
My name is Bobby and not Uncle Sam

So, you understand the 'respectful' diss for diss then.

[that bass sound is so not GM, I spent hours getting the compression right and the harmonics right to fit the key, detuned the motherf**ker in spots. All kinda shit. You dismissed it real quick I thought. It's a regulation bass sound. To back a vocal. Recognize!]

:smack: TOO LATE !!! HE HEARD OF IT ALREADY !!!

But the appropriate legal steps will be taken :!:
Do some tracks quickly before they knock at your door :!:

I am out ... calling my lawyer ...

P.S.: I added another painting in my threat ... perhaps you like it and your description of "MIRABA - Les Multiprétatives Visage d'Ínnocence" will be in the bill of indictment :!:

P.P.S.: @ runagate & jancivil: "The quarrel of lovers is the renewal of love"

Hi runagate,

6 hours of concentration crammed in 1 minute of free rambling sound, it pays off I'd say.

Slug

ps: I am listening in the attic, in case you'd like to know

Indeed, as jan says I recognize.

In fact her criticism of the clarinet tone didn't bother me. I think xoxos' reed VST sound enough like a real thing that's it's bound to disatisfy precisely by being like a reed, but naggingly off... an interesting revelation to me.

jan keeps me over-thinking everything which is a tremendous gift as far as I'm concerned :)
Slug (37,2°) wrote:ps: I am listening in the attic, in case you'd like to know
Hi Slug (37,2º)

(anyone wishing to communicate with Slug may be interested in the fact that alt+167 on the numpad will give you the degree symbol, but in Opera browser which I use it will cause you to navigate to the Opera homesite for some reason!)

The attic. Couldn't be more appropriate.

6 hours... hmm, perhaps jan is right about time management. jan, you'll be happy to know that since I've largely stopped making songs that require intricate sound design in the composing process for this particular 1/2 year that nothing takes all that long anymore. Really if we all used surround sound it wouldn't be such a pain to fit the number of sounds I like into one parsimonious sound field.

OK now ain't nobody else going to make some tracks for drumity?

Post

beautiful, runny!
FWIW, I really love the clarinet sound. jancivil- if you know a soundfont of a GM clarinet sound that is like this one, PLEASE post a linky! I'm sure it would be less CPU expensive than what runny apparently did to achieve that Silvertone magic!

also (FWIW...), drumity's project IS on my to do list. so many beautiful paintings...I've got choice paralysis! :D

[edit- forgot to mention- flaser on the master? :-o wow!...obviously your flaser kung fu is much better than mine. Everytime I use flaser things go along fine until all of a sudden it reaches critical mass and I start getting feedback the likes of which begin to distort the fabric of reality :scared: ]
