Hi,
Somewhat strong hammer sounds are on purpose with the Ambience preset. Hammer strength depends on how loud or soft you play and the selected preset. There are some limitations in the v1.x engine which make it hard to completely balance it out over the entire keyboard range in the Amber module. Perhaps we'll be able to tweak it a bit further in the near future.

I've always been a fan of TruePianos, but I must say, with this latest release/update the quality of this instrument is simply amazing.
I LOVE the Amber module. I LOVE the reverb.
I just did an A/B comparison with my favorite SampleTekk piano (Seven Seas Grand - the biggest one they make) in Kontakt3 (with CSR reverb added) to just TP Amber using the built-in reverb. I played each extensively, switching back and forth, for about an hour.
In the end, I can finally say I like TP better. I never thought I would give up my huge sample libraries, but now I think I will, simply because I PREFER the sound(s) of TP. It's SO tweakable too, which you just don't get with the sample libraries (for the most part).
I also flipped back through ALL of the TP modules, and I must say there is AMAZING amount of variety here on offer.
Roel, you have an utterly amazing product with TruePianos!

To install True Pianos 1.4 do I need to delete the old version+modules first or will the installer replace the old versions?
Also, will I have to re-register 1.4?

Don't know if it's the "right" answer but I just installed over the top of the existing installation and all was well - and no need to re-register.

Hi,
No need to uninstall or reactivate TruePianos. You can simply install the new files over the currently installed engine and module. Note though that you should download and install the new modules to avoid some compatibility issues with the new engine.

Hi Roel. Thanks for this update. I really like the Reverb that's been added to True Pianos!
I also like the tone of the new Amber module but I also have found the wood noises to be inconsistent throughout the range of the piano. The clunks do seem much louder on some of the higher octaves. This seems to almost make the top notes sound fuller/thicker than the mid and lower register?
I quite like the sound of the clunks but they could do with being a fraction quieter in the higher register and the bottom end made fuller?

If I can free up the time for it I'll see if I can make it more balanced/consistent in the next two months.
Amber is based on a TP v2 module which has been ported down to the v1.x engine. We were able to implement a few new internal features in the aging v1 engine (e.g. partial implementation of what I called timbre morphing many months ago on KVR which is used with Amber) to make it work like it does now. If for example you play some notes from loud to soft you'll notice that the timbre actually changes with Amber in a way it doesn't with other modules. This slimmed down implementation of what I've called 'timbre morphing' till now however also introduces what you brought up.
We did some engine optimizations to lower the CPU usage for existing modules quite a bit and to keep it approximately as you guys were used to with the new Amber module. A more complete implementation of the method would cause the CPU usage to surge with the current engine as it simply wasn't designed to do these things from the very start, thus the completely new v2 engine we've been working on a lot this year which is designed to do this and many other new things from the start in an effective way.
Compared to the original v2 module it's like having a 4 bit GIF image versus the original 24 bit PNG source. Personally I love what the Amber module has become and your comments about it are also valid, with at least some of the presets, but again it's hard to balance out and improve much further on the current v1.x branch of the engine.

Nice work.
I play with the trial version since some hours and the results are amazing.
Bad that some modules are missing in this trial e.g. the Amber.
I think TP has the capability to replace most oft the large piano samplelibs!

Just another thing I noticed with the Amber module is there seems to be quite a lot of noise with some of the higher register notes. If you play C5 very loud and keep the note held down you can hear quite a loud hiss? I noticed this with quite a few notes in this register?

I think you are hearing some body resonance simulation (side effect) since what I hear I don't perceive as noise/hiss. Check PM.

Hi Roel - thanks for clarifying and also thanks for you guys' effort to make the Amber module available for TP v1.4. I really like the tone and overall response of Amber. If this is only part of what it is capable as you say, then I can't wait for TP v2 - very promising!
Let me point out that my critique wasn't meant as negative as it may have come across. I was a little bit disappointed when I stumbled over those inconsistencies in this otherwise great sounding module. If you can find the time to look into this, that'd be great! I understand that v2 has priority though.
Anyway, never ever did I regret to having bought TruePianos. I even believe it helped me to learn to play a little bit better (though "a little bit better" than "very crappy" is still "crappy" - but hey, I have fun with it
). You guys are doing a really great job!

Only Diamond is included in the trial version to keep the size down as well as to counter piracy since it's usually not too hard to reset the trial period on a demo version which is not restricted in other ways than being disabled after a certain amount of time without adding nasty solutions like use of dongles or online trial period verification.
