It isn't free.

Wow no way. I could have sworn a while ago it was free, but then when you became a Rap star you had to give them 50 bucks.

Or something like that. What does it cost now?

See the image that was posted previously or go to their site to find:
REAPER is available for download without technological limitations for evaluation purposes. Once you have evaluated REAPER, you should purchase a license.

The normal price for REAPER is $225.00 USD, however for users who wish to use REAPER only for non-commercial use we offer reduced price licensing for $50.00 USD. Upgrades from non-commercial licenses to full (commercial) licenses are available.

Amazing.

That's what I call a legible contract.

@Meffy: well played.

@SadPuppyBlues: From what I recall 1.0+ versions have always been this way and the earlier dot releases pre 1.0 were freeware. I could be wrong, though.

What about the new patch format in cubase/nuendo? Are Cubase creating their own planet? They have stopped using fxb / fxp , and now use their own format that can not be converted to fxb.

A while ago a user sent me a bank with patches created in Cubase. I cannot open it in any hosts here. (Old cubase, reaper, savi-host and some other....)

I asked a professional keyboardist (Cubase SX) to convert them for me, but he says it is not possible. What on earth are Steinberg doing? They created the fxb standard that is used by all hosts......

Yep that's what I was saying earlier about shooting themselves in the foot and one of the main reasons I decided against buying it.

I realize I am a lone voice here, but I find it amazing that anyone would even compare Cubase 4 to Reaper. Reaper is a good program, but it is simply not a mature app yet. I hope it will be, but not yet. Cubase 4 is a complete, mature app (as is Sonar, Logic....etc). I believe Reaper has an excellent price point for those starting out, or with limited funds. But the apps themselves are in two different leagues.

And yes, I do own a Reaper license.

To be fair though, the last page was almost entirely written by "shogger" - busy boy!
How did he do all that just while I was in the little room?? :hihi:
I was just bored and wanted some distraction. :lol:
