I just got Reaktor 5 installed and I'm salivating at the thought of getting started with it. I mean, it has a manual, 2 manuals even. Coming from the world of SynthEdit, this is a luxury I have never known before :D

So I thought once I've covered a few of the tutorial ensembles (even more luxury!) I might have a go at recreating some of my freeware VSTs into Reaktor ensembles to share in the User Library.

I searched around here and the Reaktor forum, but it's not obvious to me. If I create a Reaktor ensemble on a PC, will it work in Reaktor on a mac?

Post

yep.
the percent is like 98 %.
so its YES.
looking for your fx as reaktor ens.

I think the only compatibility issue is that Reaktor ensembles created in OSX can have file names that are "illegal" in Windows (symbols and such). EW will be along shortly to clarify if I'm wrong but I think that this issue is rare.

I heard that too, but I have never had any compatibility problems with the ensembles.

I actually downloaded most of them on my PC and transfered them to my mac.

Yep- that's the only glitch I've ever seen as far as cross platform compatibility goes.

mate, when I saw that Reaktor was one of the the prizes, I was hoping for that! You gonna love it. even me I can understand it, so you definitely gonna get it.
investigate the user library on line for some good exemples.
furthermore, (and I don't want to start a flame war here...), Reaktor has got something that Synthedit hasn't: That sound. there is some incrediblely good sounding modules in there, filters and such. you can't code your own as in SE, but you don't actually need to. most of my best sounding virtual instruments and effects are Reaktor ensembles.
It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

This is not true. First of all, with the proper knowledge you can perfectly create (code) your own filters and oscillators in Reaktor (esp. Core, it is made for low level DSP programming). Next, "that sound" doesn't exist. When taking stock filters and connecting them in a very generic way, the sound will also be generic and recognisable, just as in synthedit. With the right amount of knowledge and experience, synths and effects that separates themselves from the masses can be created.

Btw, i'm also very entousiast about Reaktor.

great! thanks for the responses guys, I'm so looking forward to getting stuck into Reaktor, right now I'm reading the manual like geekporn :)

and I will still use SE, it's all just tools, and it's all good. I wouldn't throw my spanner out because I have a monkey wrench
